Daww! It'd be cool if you did, but obviously no obligation :b Right now, I'm imagining Bob and Abby making golden-derp faces together :3

Oh I'd imagine ;_; My aunt had a little dog (that I became super fond of) named Bella. No one really liked her because of her under-bite, which is my aunt rescued her. She was supposed to be 15lbs. and was a whole 7lbs. I believe. We thought she would die within the first week. She ended up regaining some weight and lived for another 2-3 years. I absolutely loved that dog. She was the sweetest little thing ever. We visited my aunts house a lot just to play with her and the other 13. Then she started getting a little older and lost all of her vision. She was still able to hear but she'd often bump into walls and wandered outside once. You would need to call her over and guide her by your voice - it was a very sad time for her. I was so devastated (and relieved) when she was euthanized. I miss her like crazy, and she wasn't even my own dog ;___; Then there was Oofus, the Saint Bernard (also one of my aunt's) who had nearly the same story. I loved them <33

Awww ;_; "I was so devastated (and relieved) when she was euthanized." That's it, exactly. So sad, but so much better for the dog, so in some way it's nice. Just hard to appreciate when you're feeling sad x_x

True~ it's nice to know they aren't suffering as much, but it's impossible to not feel.. hollow after something like that. I'm sure Abby's in a much more comfortable spot now, though ♥ As well as Bella!

Yeah... I'm so glad she wasn't sick for a long time. My first family dog was really, really ill for months before she finally died
It was really sad, because she died when everyone had gone to the store. Maybe she thought we abandoned her ;_;

Any suggestions for making the initial feathery edges? That's the part I always muck up first, so I can never get to the rest because I'm all "rawr!!!" (can't make auroras period, let alone animal shaoes yet rofl)

jocarra In reply to Lyrak [2012-07-29 01:03:29 +0000 UTC]
*chuckles* Yeah, it takes time.
What I do for the feathery edge is simply just "sketch" it with an airbrush (a soft-edged brush set to a low flow setting, like 1-20%). No smudging (which looks too obviously like the smudge tool pulled through your nice cloud of colour), and no motion blur filter (which looks too absolutely perfect). Just some sketchy lines that roughly go in the same direction, some are longer than others, some are shorter, some "spikes" are grouped up with a bunch of others, some are relatively on their own.
However! If you're having some trouble getting it started, maybe try running it through a motion blur filter and THEN painting on top of that. The filter will create that sort of liney feathery edge. However, it'll do it on both sides, so I'd gently erase the bottom part of the blurry lines, and manually edit the top. Add some manually painted highlights and erase the lines so they aren't all the same length and value.
I prefer painting them from scratch, though Lemme know if you need any more help, or if I was confusing or something :b

Hurray! This is much more easy the way you put it than figured, so ow would adding a gradient map over a white defined aurora shape then the way you colored it, but I will try your way made this first.

jocarra In reply to KristopheB96 [2012-07-25 22:41:18 +0000 UTC]
I'm not sure, I've never used the process. It's fairly simple, though, so I'm pretty sure than any decent painting program should be able to do it
