What fonts did you use for your maps? Or are they all hand drawn.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

jocarra In reply to CrypticBlaze [2012-03-27 05:54:56 +0000 UTC]

The font used for the tutorial headers is Arlekino. I also use Castellar on the maps (eg. [link] - the big regional names like Lesser Juubai and Niyotael). Everything else is hand drawn.

what is the font at the bottom of the tutorial next to "embellishing the map" ? great job btw

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

jocarra In reply to remark666 [2012-03-25 21:23:38 +0000 UTC]

It isn't a font, it's hand-written in Illustrator, so can't really help you there :b Sorry!

Thanks though

theIronArtist In reply to ??? [2012-03-12 03:47:46 +0000 UTC]

you have any tips for desert like places?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

jocarra In reply to theIronArtist [2012-03-12 06:34:34 +0000 UTC]

Consider how wind direction will affect the surrounding areas. For instance, the prevailing winds may result in the offcoast waters have a high percentage of minerals in the water (which may colour it) caused by sand being blown into the ocean. Or consider that the wind coming off the water towards the desert will result in the coastal region being milder than the desert mainland, given the temperature-modulating effect water has. Also consider that a humid wind blowing through a hot area will dump all its water if forced to go over mountains, resulting in the far side of the mountain range being arid and hot instead of humid and hot. When it comes to real-world geography, hot deserts are typically found around 30 degrees from the equator.

Those are all the geographical considerations I can think of for the moment :b

Oooo, wonderful! I'm definitely adding this to my faves to come back to later, if I ever need to make an old world map.
Maybe I could add some extra thought to the elves I want to make in Poser, and flesh them out with a Land... a foreign Land needs a map
Excellent tutorial... as easy to follow and just as insightful as your painting tuts. Well done!

:giggles: You're absolutely right... they would get rather bored stuck in my head I'll have to give it some thought... names of places, layout of the map... some backstory for my Elves might help too.
