Nov. 23, '09Fun fact: For virtually every anime I watch and game I play that I can even classify as something that I "like", I have considered making fanart for it. As you might notice by looking through my gallery though, I don't actually draw that much fanart... sadly, few make the cut.
But - and I don't think this will come a huge surprise to anyone - I'm a huge fan of Final Fantasy (ever since #1!) and having been hyping over this next release since it was first announce FOUR years ago. Of course, now that it's release in my country is getting close (105 days today, but who's counting?) my hype is building again. I just had to get this out of my mind somehow (especially since the Japanese release is next month and I'll want to be careful online to avoid spoilers). Long story short (too late), I decided to draw fanart of the six main characters.

From left to right:
Snow, Lightning, Sazh, Hope, Vanille, Fang
I'd get into further details on each character, but I don't really know much about any of them. All I know is that I'm rooting for romance between Lightning and Vanille.
(Yeah, I'll keep dreaming...
)I'd like to point out how challenging of a piece this was. The original artwork (and occasional screenshots) that I had to reference are so ridiculously detailed that as much as I love these characters, I hope I never feel compelled to draw them again. Still, I rather like the designs (as bizarre as they are) and I found that drawing them made me appreciate them that much more.
I wish I had more to say, but I guess I don't. Anywho, I really like this piece and hope you do too. For s**ts and giggles, I decided to open up the floor for Critique if anyone's interested.

I knew I had something I else I wanted to point out. The very second piece I ever posted here on DA was a fanart of Lightning shortly following the E3 Final Fantasy 13 was announced at [link] (I didn't even know her name yet). I figured showing this contrast of the same character and how I drew her today compared to how I drew her in 2006 might be somewhat interesting to some people... maybe.
Well, I think it's kinda neat.

Ever heard of, "Sarcasm"? I bet that diction of yours holds it somewhere in your head. It was a take on how love triangles in FF are commonplace these days. Plus this is the first Shota character to have a major part in an FF story, so I figured, "They're going somewhere with this >_>". Plus, since you managed to scope that out, I'm pretty sure you've come to realize that the artist was clearly an English speaker. Way to seek stuff out. You get an applause for that.

Oh no, you're mistaken it has nothing to do with your hentai interest. You mentioned it before, twice I think. Or for that matter your interest in sex and blah. You kind of remind me of the stereotypical guy character to be honest. Which is why I wouldn't expect much but you have some ghetto and nerdy themes.

I am, but it usually takes 3 months to make up decisions as to which pairing I support, as well as get over a certain genre of character classification. Luckily, that message was made last year. ^_^

Lightning and Vanille look great here, and are my favourites in this picture and in the game
Well, until I play it of course. Where Lightning gets an angry low woman's voice and no doubt Vanille sounds like a valley girl. GRRR. If only I hadn't heard the Japanese voices. I've already attached those voices to the characters and it'll be hard to convince me otherwise :<
But still, you've got all the important details and aspects of the characters in here, so really, A BIG WELL DONE

Lightning and Vanille are currently my favorites, but Hope intrigues me and Snow and Fang look badass and I just plain like Sazh too. I love this cast.
Actually, having heard some of the English voice acting, I'm quite pleased so far. Lightning's voice is a little deep, but still feminine. I really rather like it. And Vanille has this adorable Australian accent; just makes me melt. At least in my opinion, the voices are pretty strong so far.

It's hard to name a favorite character personally, since I don't know all that much about them. So far I like everyone, but I think I also favor Lightning, Vanille and Hope.
As for pairings, I completely agree with you. Any of those would be totally fine by me, except of course for Snow and Lightning. While not disappointed, I'm really surprised that there hasn't been any crazy fangirl pairings. I'm sure they'll come around when the game actually comes out, mind you, but I admit I am pretty surprised all the same.

Very nice, this and Bayonetta are the games I'm looking forward to the most(and praying I can pre-order).
I really like all of the character designs except maybe hope(that cape is tacky). But compared to ff12 they ...which was pretty much impossible to do fanart of, they toned down the details enough for to draw eventually too ^^.
Oh! Hurray A black guy's in the game and....he's using guns again....well I guess it fits in the world and it's better than nothing(not to mention an amazing half-fro). Iv'e never seen Fang though, must have missed that trailer, I'll be on the look out for it.

Yeah, I'll probably pre-order this; I'm hoping for some kind of cool special edition thingy (perhaps a little more than the special edition FF12). Bayonetta, I don't know much about; I know OF it, but that's it.
Yeah, Hope's cape is a little weird, but it doesn't bother me nearly as much as Lightning's pouch that wraps around her leg... I mean, what made Nomura think that was practical?
Sazh, I admit, I had a hard time taking seriously at first, primarily because of the fro (and the chocobo that dwells within it). But you know, if I had the option, I don't think I'd get rid of it; it's got a lot of charm to it.
I think Fang was only very recently announced. There must have been a official video or magazine scan somewhere along the line, but I'm pretty sure I missed it. I first saw her in the release date announcement video [link] and only learned her name even more recently from trying to look up pictures to reference.
Lightning seems to give that look a lot. ^_^

I don't really know much about FFXIII except that Lightning is hawt and she looks fantastic here.
Snow's forearm seems a bit short and the lack of folds and wrinkles in his coat gives it a flat look.
Does Sazh really have a rubber ducky in his 'fro? XD I want that coat!
Vanille looks cute. The costume looks like it must have been a pain in the buttocks to draw. Well done.
Fang... looks like she's ready to kick some ass. Her right breast looks to be a bit high. It appears as though her boobs are slanted at an unusually high angle.

Lightning is quite hawt. ^_^ So is Vanille. And Fang. Uh oh, my inner-fangirl is showing.
Sazh does indeed have a "baby chocobo living in his afro" [link] . And he does have a nice coat. Actually, if you can get around the fact that he has a small animal living in his hair, he actually probably has the most practical design I've ever seen Nomura concoct.
Vanille's costume is a BITCH to draw. And sadly, a lot of the details in the beads and whatnot wrapped around her body are lost. Still, she's a delight to the eyes.
Fangs chest is probably off because of her costume too. I think I like her's the best (I wish I could plausibly even pull off a getup like that, but I don't know), but it's tough to manage with all those folds and wraps.
