Anyway, there's next to no dialogue here. In fact, this is the "quietest" page dialogue-wise. Fortunately, it is also the busiest artistically.
Depicted here is the busy morning routine required of Rain in order to pass in her presentation. Originally, I wasn't going to do this, but I thought it might be kind of insightful, especially to those readers who are in fact not transgendered. Anyway, I hope you all enjoy the montage; it was the first time I'd ever had to draw a lot of these actions. And thanks to this comic, I wonder if it won't be the last.
You know... I'm starting to think maybe it wasn't a phase after all...

At this stage, it would just be crossdressing. I'm trying to make this a fairly realistic story, so there'll be no magical transformations, if that's what you mean.

Yeah, I considered drawing it out a little longer, but ultimately decided I wanted to jump right into the "present day" of the story. I may still do flashbacks later on to establish what's been missed in those 13 years. ^_^

I used to always wake up exactly ten minutes before I had to catch the bus. Just enough time to stumble out, pull on something clean, inhale some bacon, and put on my coat.
Remembering to brush my hair was a gamble, to my great misfortune.

I've never been a morning person. Even back in the kindergarten years, I liked Senior Kindergarten much better than Junior Kindergarten because I got to sleep in. xD

If you look in the shower, you can see that Rain's chest is flat. However, after dressing and preparation, the finished product has suddenly developed breasts. This is the way of introducing that Ryan's desire to become a girl stayed as he grew. So now that he's old enough and able to take action and start turning that wish into a life choice, he takes a good chunk of time in the morning to dress accordingly to the identity he wishes to present, or Rain, the girl he feels he truly is.
So currently she's cross-dressing, but it's in hopes to eventually be a permanent change.

I'm not sure how one could just "get turned into a girl," but JCD has consistently said that Rain is a pre-operative transsexual. Outside of that, panels four and seven make it pretty clear, too.

Well, I also could have greeted this page by saying, "but then she later meets Miles and everything starts go to hell", but only the two of us would get it, and that's nowhere near canon.
Besides, my character is from another planet entirely....

Yeah, the whole "being from two different worlds" thing could complicate the notion of Rain and Miles meeting. But who knows. Maybe Rain loses a week somewhere and you know... weird stuff happens...
And yes, The Slayers was one of the first anime I really got into so it holds a special place in my nerdy heart.

I was fascinated with the International Channel for a bit, as it was showing a few one-shot OVA Anime in subtitles. But it was Slayers that REALLY pulled me into the whole thing.
Such a shame IC/AZN Network got wiped off the face of the planet. It was a REALLY great placeholder for old and obscure titles.... T_T
