Description AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAND we're done. Yeeeeep, had to squeeze in one more "AWESOME!" moment, Fordo scoping out his Phase II helmet. It's my understanding that when you earn Jaig Eyes, you don't necessarily have to apply them right away. I like to think Fordo was humble enough to wait.

And to those of you eagle-eye inconsistency spotters, I made some decisions on this page that I'm going to go back and correct on all of the previous pages. Namely, the Jedi's hairdo.

Thanks so much to you guys for following along, and I hope you'll do the same for the Starkiller and Kyle Katarn short stories, to start in October!!!

I've been waiting for the end of this short comic to finally comment on the whole thing (as I find it unproductive for the artist to comment page by page), and I gotta say that I feel like the good ol' days of the 2003 cartoon, kind of like a bonus episode of the micro-series. I enjoyed how you managed to use pre-existing canon elements and characters and still be original, something most fanworks fail to do.

That said, I'm looking forward to reading the Kyle Katarn short story you mentioned! Does it happen in the Dark Forces, Jedi Knight or Jedi Outcast/Academy era?

As a side note, I would hate to bother you with my horrendous n00bness, but I've been looking for a way to include link images in my deviation descriptions and somehow, I can't get the HTML image tag to work. All I get is something like . I could use your enlightement on that, if that's not too much to ask.

JoeHoganArt In reply to Quinn-G [2011-10-03 18:46:33 +0000 UTC]

I appreciate the thought, but don't feel shy next time! I love to hear about what people think as they read along, but do totally get where you're coming from! Thanks so much for the kind words. I really wanted to keep a sense of continuity to give it as much weight as I could for a short story like this, but I'm so glad you picked up on all the subtleties!

As for Kyle, his story will most likely take place between Outcast and Academy! While I really want an excuse to draw his first ship, the Moldy Crow, I'd rather tell an original story with Kyle in full swing of his force powers. He crashes the Crow at the end of Jedi Knight, so unfortunately, I won't get to draw the Crow in the story. But oh well! I hope you dig it when it starts in 2 weeks!

Finally, no worries about the question! I assume you mean the thumbnails of the previous pages I've included in the description of each page here. That's a really easy one! To the right of every deviation on DA is a set of options. If it belongs to you, it's "Edit Deviation", "Delete Deviation", and then sharing options. To the far right of those sharing options is a little triangle pointing down. Click on that to get a little window pop up. It gives you the "Link", "Embed" html, and "THUMB" of that specific deviation. Copy and paste that thumb into any Deviation Description or DA Journal to get it to show up as a thumbnail! You can only have 6 thumbnails in a description though (which is why I had to direct link Page 7 and 8 in the older pages), but as far as I know, you can thumbnail as many as you like in journals. Hope that helps!

And you're most welcome. I always strive to give artists the criticism they deserve.

Yup, can't deny the awesomeness of the ol' Crow. Looking forward to seeing Kyle kicking ass in your style, though!

It's... that simple? I had a feeling deviantART worked on something else than HTML coding. Oh well, that works too, I guess.

JoeHoganArt In reply to Quinn-G [2011-10-03 19:38:11 +0000 UTC]

Thanks much!

Yep! I may cheat and have it "rebuilt" because I simply hate the Raven's Claw, but we'll see. I don't know if I want to tread down that slope. I like following continuity.

Don't feel bad. I felt pretty dumb when I found out how easy it was myself!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Quinn-G In reply to JoeHoganArt [2011-10-04 07:45:16 +0000 UTC]

I don't see what's to dislike about the Raven's Claw, but, well, that's your opinion. I am myself a sucker for continuity in an original Star Wars story (something the CGI The Clone Wars show fails to do big time (Not that it stops me from watching it, mind you)), but I'd definitely like to see the Moldy Crow fly again despite the chronological inconsistency it might cause.

It turned out that the thumb system doesn't work either for me, but I think it has to do with the fact that my account is not a premium membership - unlike yours, for instance. Oh, well. I'll just stick with the link tag. Thanks for your helpful IT support!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JoeHoganArt In reply to Quinn-G [2011-10-04 16:59:21 +0000 UTC]

I just really dislike it in comparison to the Moldy Crow. The giant engines are just too obnoxious to me, but it is indeed just a personal preference. I was probably just sore that the Moldy Crow was out of the picture! haha But I'm glad you don't think it's a total copout if I reintroduce the Crow...

BAH! Damn thumb system. That's really strange, because I could swear I started doing that before I had the premium account. But I could be wrong. Anyway, sorry we couldn't fix the problem with that!

AxletheBeast [2011-10-02 06:33:17 +0000 UTC]

Just wanted to say, this was a surprisingly cool comic. I love this story. One of the things I was fond of in The Clone Wars was the personal character moments with the Clones. Treating them as people and not grunts and their own individual interactions and character developments.

I think you captured that pretty well in this comic, particularly just with the one Arc Trooper guy, but it's still there. I enjoyed it a lot!

Thank you very much! Much obliged, my friend! I'm no writer, and honestly, I just wanted an excuse to draw Fordo being a badass, but I did want to do it the best justice that I could. I hope you'll check out the next comic!

JoeHoganArt In reply to st4ludicrous [2011-10-03 06:00:57 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, Scott! Yep, I'm working 100% digitally for the comics these days. I actually downloaded a great 300 dpi template that's the correct dimensions for Dark Horse, and just start every page with that template. And I'm doing it all in Photoshop, with a Cintiq 21UX (took forever to save up for, but worth every penny...). Thanks for the kind words!!!

st4ludicrous In reply to JoeHoganArt [2011-10-03 12:22:52 +0000 UTC]

nice! thats funny because i usually get confused with page size digitally. lol. using the layers to render drawings is a HUGE time saver, but i think i just love to ink way too much to completely let go of the traditional style. we'll see tho.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JoeHoganArt In reply to st4ludicrous [2011-10-03 16:18:01 +0000 UTC]

Hah, yeah, I'm really bad with figuring all of that stuff out. But you're exactly right, drawing with layers makes life so much easier. Plus I was never great with traditional inking anyway, so having the help of the "undo" shortcuts makes my process much quicker than it used to me!

And anytime I miss traditional stuff, I just break out some sketch cards! haha

jorrus [2011-10-01 09:16:45 +0000 UTC]

Really well done!
This arc brought all the elements together: as a fan, I like the inclusion/explanation of the v2 helmet
This has entered personal cannon, even if lucas/film says it 'never existed'.
That just makes this all the more 'special ops': We are reading a comic that 'never existed' about special operations that 'never happened'... haha

Rant aside, Whens the next clonewars comic?
Who else gets some attention?
I will definitely be watching with interest...

JoeHoganArt In reply to jorrus [2011-10-03 06:09:23 +0000 UTC]

Thanks so much! I'm so glad you appreciate all the little nooks and crannies I wanted to have. Depth was important to me, because Fordo just isn't as fleshed out as he has the potential to be!

Not sure when the next Clone Wars-specific comment will be, but my recent poll has Galen Marek (Starkiller) and Kyle Katarn as the two big contenders to get their own mini story like this. And after that, I've got an original Order 66 story I'd like to do. But after that? I'm sure I'll do more Clone Wars...

Wilco5 [2011-10-01 03:32:03 +0000 UTC]

Great work! I'm going to have to work my way back to check out this strip from the begining. I do remember Fordo having the Jaig Eyes on his head bucket during The Battle for Coruscant in the Clone Wars micro-series. That's what made him standout from CDR Neyo and the other Salecumi clones. Great stuff!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JoeHoganArt In reply to Wilco5 [2011-10-03 06:06:53 +0000 UTC]

Thanks dude! And yeah, they already established him EARNING the Jaig Eyes (from the battle of Hypori), but he didn't get them on his Phase I helmet. It's also not an automatic thing to be included once you've earned it, you have the right to choose if you'd like to wear them, you know? So I wanted to throw that in there as one last fun "aha!" moment.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Wilco5 In reply to JoeHoganArt [2011-10-08 11:22:24 +0000 UTC]

I used to have that CW micro-series figure. I didn't know about the option of wearing the eyes once it was earned but yeah, that is still cool to know. But I'm glad I was able to find a Vintage Classic series Fordo at a Target late July, heh. Cheers!
