Description
This is another quick experiment with Carrara 8.5 Pro and LUXUS for Carrara. This time I was playing with the LUX materials, the surface replicator and the new LuxRender 1.4 RC1 luxrender engine. It seems much faster, this was just a 1 hour render.Click here to view the stereoscopic 3D version at 3dLive

Excellent. I must play with Carrara more often (although I don't have LUXUS).

Thank you, I loved Carrara (especially the surface replicator I used to create this). Too bad DAZ seems to have abandoned it too

Unfortunately, I think Carrara just isn't sufficiently popular to warrant Daz putting much effort into it's development. Such a pity...

will be a Belated comment but I feel like to smell aircraft fuel-metal and all kind of smell of an aircraft hangar!! Gorgeous work

Thank you, This was an experiment to see how well LUXUS for Carrara worked with Carrara 8.5 Pro. I may have went a little overboard in making everything metal

Cool scene, and I echo the "wow"s over the one hour.

So far, so good... only did a super-quick test scene, and it went fast. As in, it was pretty decent in ten minutes. If I'd let it run longer, bet it would've been really nice. I will play more this weekend.

Only an hour render and that included rendering both stereoscopic images at the same time.
I am starting to think only using one light might have been the real reason it went so quick.

I just downloaded the latest luxrender, but I haven't tried it yet. Have you tried a benchmark render with an older scene to compare render times?

More experiments are needed

How many scans per pixel? And is this the size you rendered it at??

JoePingleton In reply to capn-gary [2014-10-17 23:22:32 +0000 UTC]
This was the render size.
I'll have to check on the number of scans per pixel.

I was just curious. I've got a monster machine, and even simple Lux Renders take a couple of hours, unless they are really small, and most of the surfaces are matte. So you're using Lux release candidate 1.4? Any glitches?

I converted most of the materials to lux metal2 and used a lux infinite light with an hdmi map. Usually it takes a few hours with the old lux, but this one I only let run an hour. I used 1.4 release candidate. No cliches so far.
