Nice back lighting. And his face expression is so speaking.

Thanks,
I am starting to appreciate the value of rim lighting.Β His expression is based off the default Genesis 2 male expressions since the character is just a morph of that figure.Β Upon examining things more after some comments, it may humanize him a little too much since an animal and a human express differently. That's why I changed the title from "Gentle Red Ape" to "Person of the Forest"

Well, it has its advantages. We sympathize more with human-like features than with pure animals.

That is what I was trying for with this experiment, since the posture is a casual human model pose. I meant for his smile to be more friendly and it came out more like a snarl, but that works too.

It definitely works, makes him very antropomorphic and self-assured.

Thanks, I applied Photoshop's "oil paint" filter on it to try to brush it

Thanks, I am really liking rim lighting and fur, it makes the edges pop from the backgroundΒ Now if I can figure out how to get it to work with Iray

I tried to make him smile and posed him like a model to make him look less menacing. Β It didn't soften him enough

The problem could be the showing of the teeth. Only humans show their teeth when they smile, every other creature on the planet that shows teeth isn't doing it to be friendly.

That's a very interesting observation.

Maybe next time, don't show the teeth. Dolphins always look smiley though.

Thanks for the valuable tips
His expression is based off the default Genesis 2 male expressions, the character is just a morph of that human figure. I changed the title from "Gentle Red Ape" to "Person of the Forest" after considering your feedback.
