Created by Dr. Gero, Cell was the culmination of years of studying the Z warriors. Taking in DNA from several sources, including Frieza, Piccolo and the Saiyans, Cell was the Perfect Bioweapon to destroy Goku. However, due to the successful eradication of the Androids in his timeline, Cell found himself unable to fullfill his programming.

Pulling a sneak attack, Cell assassinated an unassuming Trunks, and stole the Saiyans Hope and traveled back to a time period where he would be able to find the Androids 17 and 18 alive and well.

Creating a new branch in the timeline, theres no telling what may happen now.
