Description
Kang made it to the end of the Tournament, and faced many of outworld's best fighters, however in the end the final opponent was the Sorcerer Shang tsung. In Final Kombat, Liu Kang defeated the aging Sorcerer, and in a valiant effort spared the old man. Shang T'sung concedes to Liu Kang, and a mystical gong sounds across the island as Earth is finally saved. The Thunder God Raiden is impressed by the Mortal Monk.

The White Lotus Society accepts Liu Kang's choice to leave the Academy, but still holds a ceremony for the Champion of Mortal Kombat.
However, things are quickly halted, when a disturbance is felt across earth. The Wu Shi Academy is attacked by hordes of Tarkatan, and many of the Monks spring into Action.

Raiden arrives to gather worthy warriors, and takes Liu away from the fight. It is explained that the rules of Mortal Kombat are not broken by invaders to their realm, and so, in order to save Earth this time, they must head into the badlands of Outworld, and take the fight to the source of the invasion. Shao Kahn, the emperor of Outworld, Shang tsung's Master, must be fought in Mortal Kombat.
