Eons ago a war broke out between the Elder Gods. Shinnok turned against his fellow Deities in an attempt to over throw them, and rule over all of existence under a unified single Realm. Of course the protector gods of each realm were called forth to aid against Shinnok and despite his overwhelming power, the deities enacted a relic that would remove Shinnok's abilities. Rendered powerless, Raiden was the one to banish the Former Elder God deep away into the NetherRealm where he would remain imprisoned and forgotten for all eternity.

However, over the years, others have sought similar conquests like Shinnok once attempted and as such, one in particular would discover the secret of the Fallen Elder God. The manipulative Sorcerer Quan Chi had discovered the Amulet that defeated Shinnok, and attempted to reclaim the lost relic so that he may free his Master from his imprisonment in the NetherRealm. With Shinnok freed the realms would fall and be powerless to stop Shinnok from rising once again.

Shinnok was freed by those who worshipped him, and any marked by the Insignia of the Brotherhood of Shadows would be kept alive to rule within the Unified Realm governed over by the One Single Elder God, Shinnok.
