Perhaps an act of suicide, or assassination, Kuai Lang cared very little for how his former master met his end. The entirety of the clan had been disbanded, those turned into Cyborgs were lost during the invasion, and any who remained human had gone into hiding.

Sub-Zero shut the doors on the old monastery, and vowed to redeem the Lin Kuei by rebuilding and relocating a new temple somewhere far that would act as a beacon for Protection across Earthrealm. However, these plans would be haulted when a new threat emerges from the shadows.

Shinnok, a Fallen Elder God lost to Myth and Legend returns from the NetherRealm. Bringing forth the fury of Hell, those who follow and worship the Fallen Elder God reveal themselves from the shadows to wreck Havoc upon the Earth.
