Description
So yeah, this wouldn't necessarily be the end-all-be-all hip-hop montage I would rock personally, but these were the artists mentioned by the person I did this for. I intentionally lessened the amount of detail on the roots and Jay-Z so your eye would move inward on the entire piece, and there wouldn't be a huge struggle between the different elements.Related content

Sorta... I created the paths from an image in Photoshop. They are vector though.

This is great work! I think kinda like you mentioned, there is a struggle... But for me, it's not what I think you want it to be. Jay Z's size is just distracting to me...
The more I look at this piece though, it just gets better. Overall, again it's great work?
Did you use a reference for the leaf-like motifs?

Yeah, I guess that's the dude's favorite lyricist though, that's why he's the biggest.
I actually got that (leafy thing) from one of the vector resources on this site.

This joint is very strong. the colors are sharp and you killed the flow!! Commissions are always a healthy challenge...very healthy.
I'll write you soon, I've update my page with two new pieces with more on the way (hopefully)
PEACE!!!!

The people are done extremely well, as usual.
I like the filler stuff too and was curious about how you make those vectors. I'm guessing you use some converting process on photos for stuff like that? Perhaps you raise the contrast (to black and white) and then use live paint or something to make the vector (of the buildings for example)?

Sort of... I use threshold in photoshop to make it stark black and white, then I delete the white, select the black and make a path from the selection, the I export it to Illustrator.

Wow! thanks for the great explanation. I'll try it myself sometime soon!
I have photoshop but I am so much faster in paintshop pro that I never use it. I guess Illustrator and Photoshop were made to work well together!
