Description
After all the inspiration this man's music has given me, an illustration is the very least I could do to pay respect. I wanted to have a more scattered and colorful feel for this one. I rendered it in a technique similar to my Madlib joint.Related content

It's a great picture. I saw the one in XXL. I went out and bought his instrumental c.d "donuts". he was a beat genius. One of the greats.

Yeah... If you drop back to his older work, like with tribe, De La, Common, D'Angelo, Erykah, that's when you'll really hear his genius.

You've taken my fave shot of Dilla and just... turned it into something incredible!
I just got this book, called "Behind The Beat". It's a photography book that goes behind the scenes in 20 or so hip hop producers studios. Its crazy. You have DJ Premier, Madlib, Nu-Mark, Sahdow, but above all, you have pictures of Dilla doing his thing and all his 'ish... Worth the money alone.
I love this pic.

wicked style, really digging the colours and 'raw', yet very subtle feeling of this one.

Awesome technique and style u got goin on.
Stylish and enough shapes to make it work, not goin into the tedious ultra-realistic vector or mesh style.
Gratz!
My feelings for the inspiring Jay-Dee, love his productions aswell.

No... I made paths out of the texture in the jeans and hat and exported them into Illustrator.

This is all vector... I did use some paths from photoshop and brought them into AI though... But it's all lineart.

looks fantastic man! such a tragic loss.. he did a show here in oslo, Norway just a couple of months back, came on stage and did three songs in a wheelchair!! everyone said he was getting better, but he must have known all along, and decided to go out doing what he loved: touring and making music. this man is allready a legend and will only become a even greater legend as time passes! rest in peace jay dilla!
