I know, I owe a lot of work to a lot of different people, but I had to do this. I got inspired when I got my package in the mail... For those that don't know, I won a Stonesthrow package with all sorts of dope-ass dilla stuff. I also got the idea from a sort of request from a buddy.I got the reference image from an old Waxpoetic mag cover.
Title from one of my more recently favorite Dilla tracks.

quality piece, but I must offer a bit of the contructive criticism. the 'dilla' at the bottom is strong but the way the 'a' lines up with the border is awkward and maybe if j dilla's face broke the border and came out, or at least the bill of the ball cap would be good.

been meaning to ask this for a PIECE of time... but where do you get your textures from? or do you create them yourself?

The texture I used in this is an old stained up and burnt cookie sheet that I just threw on the scanner bed and scanned in... So I guess I sorta created it myself.

man your illustration style is sick! love the colour usage... pure hard hitting! One thing though, would be sick if the broken sections were more graduated from the face, like is breaking up more... still one of the best vector portraits I've ever seen though.
