This is something I've wanted to do for a while, which was to render an elderly person, because I never have before. Surprisingly, I found it a lot easier than I had thought it would be, mainly because you don't have to be as subtle with the tones, especially when the skin is more weathered like the subject I chose. I rocked the usual technique; flat shapes and some subtle gradients in the background elements. I used three colors (the same from the Madlib joint) and used the value sliders to adjust them.The Chinese characters in the corner say "Truth" in Romanized Mandarin (I hope). This man looks like he has lived a long and experience-driven life. Thus the title.

Dude, I love the way you do your backgrounds. They are what take your work from being a (very well) vectorised stock photo to being an artwork. You also have strong concept in your stuff; both the person and the background, and again, I dig your background work because it always puts the people in your vectors into context.
I always find myself leaving my characters just floating on a white background. My devs are never complete like yours.

LOVEEEEEEEEE the hat, awesome texture. and your wrinkles are super as well. over all good composition although the verticle from the building in the background is throwing the balance off a little, imo. but thats just me. Its an awesome piece regardless of what I think

I think your approach has served to illustrate the subject effectively both technically and also in terms of content. You've infused your man dude with character and your textures are great.
I think the greatest thing about a portrait piece is not achieveing a likeness but the prescence of the person. Personally I like this piece, it's well balanced and visually pleasing but I don't feel the kind of connection I would compared to the girl in your Jaded Optimism piece.

I agree... The girl is much more engaging and able to connect with.
The purpose of this illustration was mainly to practice on an Elderly person's features.

Second off, you never cease to amaze me. You have flawlessly captured all of the rugged detail in the skin. I'd imagine an older person would be so hard to do because giving depth to the wrinkles would be hard, but you've done a great job here.
