Description
EDIT 7/11 - I'll be attempting to remove the derpiness from his face when I get timeDrawing for ~AnCatDubh , who won ~northangel27 's Snapely contest.
I was happy to learn AnCat is a fan of Symbolist artist Gustav Klimt, which made this work very enjoyable for me. The decorative figures surrounding Snape are a nod to Klimt, with a bit of Fernand Khnopff included, for what I hope is good measure. Check this slideshow for his sublime work - [link]
The figures represent Snape's canon love, Lily Evans, interpreted here as childhood friend, and tragic beauty.
This is a mostly traditional work with some color in PS. The texture is by *buzillo-stock - [link]

Yeees!!!! You made me wonder about the very slytherin colour of absinthe - I have one little bottle of it in my bedroom (never tasted it - I've been keeping it in tribute to AR (Arthur Rimbaud, what did you think ? )(yes, I'm hopeless), now I won't look at it with the same eye.
Excellent Snape, I love him!!! - he's beautiful ...

I'm glad you like him, Bea, I was really shaky @ first, it's been months . . . .it means a lot coming from you.
You have in the house??? I've always wanted to get a little from it, but the REAL stuff is totally illegal in the US. We're all a bunch of 's here XD
The best I can do about that is look up who Rimbaud is. I've heard the name for years, don't throw a shoe at me for being illiterate, OK?

one famous (simple, that one) poem by him, written at 16-17 :
Sensation
On the blue summer evenings, I shall go down the paths,
Getting pricked by the corn, crushing the short grass:
In a dream I shall feel its coolness on my feet.
I shall let the wind bathe my bare head.
I shall not speak, I shall think about nothing:
But endless love will mount in my soul;
And I shall travel far, very far, like a gipsy,
Through the countryside - as happy as if I were with a woman.
or read for example 'Vowels'
(he's considered as the first symbolist in literature)
A Black, E white, I red, U green, O blue : vowels,
I shall tell, one day, of your mysterious origins:
A, black velvety jacket of brilliant flies
Which buzz around cruel smells,
Gulfs of shadow; E, whiteness of vapours and of tents,
Lances of proud glaciers, white kings, shivers of cow-parsley;
I, purples, spat blood, smile of beautiful lips
In anger or in the raptures of penitence;
U, waves, divine shudderings of viridian seas,
The peace of pastures dotted with animals, the peace of the furrows
Which alchemy prints on broad studious foreheads;
O, sublime Trumpet full of strange piercing sounds,
Silences crossed by Worlds and by Angels:
O the Omega, the violet ray of Her Eyes!

No problem, Rimbaud is totally untranslatable, I do understand he is not read abroad. He is not read too much in France, either. However there was a film with Leonardo di Caprio as Rimbaud and Davis Thewlis as Verlaine ( slash things, only not fandom-like : their relationship in the film was faithful to their lives). Not a great film, but Leonardo was a good Rimbaud. Okay, it's the Rimbaud -fangirl speaking here... so, all that for one thing : Arthur drank absinthe, a lot of it.
It's totally illegal in France too. Had been forbidden a century ago. I got it in Prague, and keep it in my bedroom in Moscow. Anyway, I don't drink it, and maybe it's not a true one, indeed. But the colour is a very bright beautiful green indeed.

This is really a masterpiece, I agree with Scatharis!
I enjoy watching every bit of it, every corner and line. (Oh, yes, and you have definately earned the Longest Snape Nose Award, dear friend ) He is so lonely yet graceful, the way he builds a wall around his body with his robes and arms is wonderful. I really liked Lily's interpretation, especially the not forgiving harpy, brave!
AnCat is very lucky!

Thank you Maja!! This definitely went more quickly than I thought it would. (And thank you for the honor of the longest schnozz!! Thank you humbly.
)I'm glad the body position translated here. He's about as relaxed as he can get, but still wrapped so tight he's unconciously hugging himself
And Lily? Well, she was rather rigid, in my opinion . . .

So lovely to see after so long. I love the earthy jewel tones, esp the green, the darkness is simply lovely. He looks so graceful and trying to hide his inner feelings, the frame is foreboding and tragic at the same time with his childhood etc. Looove it! MOORE NOW hehehe The skull is really scary and effective.

The sense of an accustomed isolation accomplished with plenty of negative space surrounding the subject, beautifully articulated and stylistically rendered; Klimt is one of the magic words for me, and you've utilized his influence in some lovely and subtle ways; I love the rich and mulled feeling of the color palette...

If you like Klimt - stick with that slideshow of Khnopff in the comments, it's worth the trip
