Description just seeing what needs to be done

panther improved as much as I can; he'll always be a bit off since I tensed up in the drawing stage.

Why so tense and concerned?? I think it is coming along BEAUTIFULLY!!!<3. I especially love the scales.
I would have to say worrying about the whole technical layer thing has somewhat paralyzed the art process. I messed around with PS and it's "layers" , and I think I prefer corel painter, and I haven't taken the time to figure out the layers as of yet. I am working on a self portrait, and I think it is one of my better attempts. I'm sorry does that sound preachy, I guess what I am trying to say is perhaps you should just go back to the basics.

thanks, can't wait to see your self - portrait. I have Corel too, and hear their brushes are much better than PS. Haven't had tome to even explore them yet. Is the layer process minimized in Corel?

I'm pretty much done w/ this & will be putting up 2 versions soon . . . finally.

Ummm couldn't really say, after having a go with layers in PS I became to disgusted with the whole process to try in corel . That being said the command z button is my best friend!! The brushes rock, i am in love with the opaque acrylic brush.
Can't wait for the finished versions.

Well, this is certainly looking better and better. The colouring helped a bit with the tangent going on with his nose and neck but the shadows and light help make the head stand out. Maybe you could put some more shadow below his head? Just a little, to make it seem like his chin is casting a shadow on his neck?

Anyway, I think it's looking great so far, keep up the good work. I think the panther's looking better too. Very neat.

Heh thanks I'll look @ that neck thing - If I did a layer in a soft light or something that may be unfixable. . . . I'll try that tonite.

You're welcome. Anyway, it looks great. You managed to make it stand out and the head ands neck don't look disconnected... Whatever you've done and whether you kept in mind what I told you or not... well, you worked around it well enough.

I agree with sayurikemiko, very often the pieces that seem to be going nowhere turn out to be the best in the end. And then: take your time, sometimes I continue paintings after months, or even after years, because the solution to some problem suddenly becomes evident.
But maybe itΒ΄s even necessary for an artist not to be too content with his work, otherwise heΒ΄d stop creating....

thanks - I'm the type that hates to leave something undone, though - I can't go on to something new unless I know the current thing is somewhat resolved Wish I was more like you

Nanette55 In reply to joeyv7 [2008-08-05 11:48:10 +0000 UTC]

Well, itΒ΄s also a matter of what technique you work with - I used to do almost everything in oil, then you have to wait for the paint to dry, meanwhile you can work on another one.
IΒ΄m curious about your starsign in this context .....IΒ΄m a chaotic pisces with a gemini asc. So itΒ΄s hard for me to stick to only one thing anyhow. I sort of need the choas to keep the overview...

Thanks LeAnne - I just want to smooth out rough areas (you can see them on the download) as much as I can. I've seen digital works here that are seamless, I'd like to get into the habit of achieving that effect . . .

Thanks Pix - hey whenever I have time to play those discs I learn something important & new BTW
Just check the download - I've got buzzsaw lines that need to be smoothed. I should've waited until I had more experience to do this one, I guess - I was sawing away at mistakes with the pen eraser, for one, which gave it harsh/choppy lines, and the drawing itself has stray decorative lines that I don't like in a painting here.

Patilda In reply to joeyv7 [2008-08-03 06:14:10 +0000 UTC]

Ok. Now I see what you mean.
Is the lineart in a separate layer???
Have you tried to smooth it with the smudge tool??? I know we have to have a lot of patience with that, but sometimes it pays off.

You're always welcome.

Yeah, thanks - lineart um . . . God, that was like 28 layers back, it's been flattened twice now . . .sheesh, I don't know. I think it's incorporated into all of it now
