Recently Hot Topic youtube channel released a video interview with Applejack where she revealed that she got her hat "Bobbing for Apples at the Ponyville Fair," (See the full interview here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWcxeB… ) after seeing that video I decided to make a comic to expand on that a bit.Production on this comic was hard due to the fact that my art program kept freezing up while I was drawing it, but I'm pretty satisfied after finishing it. I personally think this is one of my best comics, it's one of my few comics that actually makes me kind of emotional.

I think that everyone wonders where Applejack got her hat, and seeing a comic of it is even more a mystery (since we don't know what her father looks like), but it's amazing.
The art is fantasic and lovely, and the story is just bittersweet and heart warming.

Great god, I love this the first part when Applejack was racing we I thought that the 8th panel is funny with stacked apple in her mouth, but when I continue this sad story made me a little remind me of my fiction about my parents died, the quality of the image is good but the biggest mistake is when you do the contryside people's accent, they talk like Hey y'all, mah barn going to be sellin some milk, or something like that, but I can't do it so good either, so that's a mistake I could find the problem though

Beautiful and well-made! I like how it sounds like something canon. I can see lauren doing that. But the problem i have with it is that Rarity is NOTHING like in the show. I do NOT see rarity wearing a hat because she is so protective of her hair. Also big mac does NOT have blue eyes...he has green eyes. Also AppleJack CHEATED. SHE IS THE ELEMENT OF HONESTY FOR CELESTIAS SAKE. Anywho, there is ONE more problem. Who is that green maned pony? If it is a female, It has a Colt looking nose. Other than that, Awsome Job!

First off Rarity didn't want the hat she was just curious about where Applejack got it, she said nothing about actually wanting it.
Second off, that Pony isn't Big Mac, he clearly has a different cutiemark and mane and tail style.
Third, Applejack didn't cheat, I'm pretty sure there's no rule against putting more than one apple in your mouth in an apple bobbing contest.
Fourth, that is a random background pony from The Apple Family reunion episode except much younger. Also, why would you think that pony is a mare if he has a colt nose? Is it because of his long mane, I've seen some other colts with long manes before.

Well, for such a long time i've been thinking of how Applejack got her hat. and i'm sure a lot ofbronies(it's not an insult...) we're wondering that...
So, it's realy interesting and original.
Also your art is amazing! the colouring is realy cute and good. the porpotions are well done and the stip is well built.
Congratiolations on this one and i'm sure you can do even better ones with will have 5/5 everything.
i hope you get more noticed and grow a huge fanbase

For the fandom, the absence of Applejack's parents is very much a mystery. Although it's implied they are gone. Following in the footsteps of this idea, I must say this strip has helped foster the feeling of sympathy and compassion for Applejack, Big Mac and Apple Bloom. You've taken an object fans see as common place and made it special by saying so much without saying anything. You properly conveyed the rural family values as is common with the character, making this strip perfectly acceptable and flow well with canon. I find this strip moving and your message was well conveyed. Excellent work.

Actually, it's officially confirmed and canon that Applejack's parents died. Even without the extremely obvious hint of her carrying an "in memory of"-style picture frame with two pony silhouettes in it sticking out of her little rucksack when she left the farm to go to Manehattan as a foal.
During the family reunion episode, we were told by staff that the two shooting stars in the sky represent AJ's parents, as often happens in mythology and ancient belief systems, that shooting stars are either the passing of an important person or warrior, or their spirits moving on. The latter, in this case.

I like how you opted to respond to the "official" explanation with that of the fandom's explanation, and the story is both funny and sweet, If maybe a little rushed. Also the "motion" parts are hard to follow, but I get the gist of it.
The art style is... Well its pleasant. Very characature-esk and perhaps not the best shaded and layered, but its still nice to look at. Just wish you had done something for her father other than a silhouette
As for the impact. It made me feel a full range of emotions. That is what is most important in the end. From happy straight to sad, but it didn't feel off.

And then, to make sure nothing bad happened to it, Applejack made sure to buy lots of copies of that hat, which are the ones she usually wears when she's out doing stuff where the hat might get damaged.

I doubt that we will ever know for sure what happened to their parents. I have this idea that maybe they only think their parents are deceased when, in fact, they somehow got abducted by some evil mastermind and are trapped in a living nightmare, waiting for Applejack to rescue them.
