Description
Small watercolor paintings based on screencaps from the Doctor Who episode The Parting of the Ways (Season 1). They were made during lunch breaks at my work (the second one was finished at home, though). That ending was bittersweet and nearly perfect. I'm glad Nine was my first Doctor.
1-"We waited here in the dark space, damaged but rebuilding."
2-Poor Nine. He has no real plan, no advantage in this fight, and it's like the Time War starting all over again.
3-"There was this light... I can't remember anything else."

"You were fantastic Rose Tyler. And you know what? So was I." I still don't know which hurts worse, this or losing Rose at the end of Doomsday.

I'm going to pick another option and say that what happens to Donna hurt me more than both of these combined.

Haven't reached Donna yet of course...just saw the godawful Daleks in Manhattan/Evolution of the Daleks. Never thought I'd hate a Dalek episode that much before...

Ha! Glad to know I'm not the only one who thinks this two-parter is atrocious. I see a lot of people ranking Fear her or Love and monsters as the worst of the worst episodes, but for me, Evolution of the Daleks is even worse than these two. Also, it's a two-parter, so IT'S TWICE THE PAIN.
The next episode is rather weak too. Some say 42 is also bad, but I rather like it. Hang in there, because after 42, there's six *awesome* episodes in a row. No kidding.

See you after the aftermath left by the terrible CGI monster right in your faith in the series.

I thought the CG on the Slitheens was bad...but that...*shudder*
Worst episode I've seen. I thought Daleks in Manhattan/Evolution of the Daleks was bad, but that had to be the WORST.

You actually thought it was worse than Evolution of the Daleks? If you try to ignore the awful CGI (it's not easy, I know), the story itself isn't that awful, I guess.
The worst part of NuWho is behind you now. Cheers.

I think that Daleks in Manhattan had an interesting premise portrayed very poorly.
And hallelujah! I'm glad for that. I know from the covers at my video rental store that Martha leaves at the end of the season (no idea why though) and it's a shame half of her era was wasted. In the first half of the season the only episode I liked was Gridlock.
The Doctor talking about his planet always gets at me.

I really liked Smith and Jones and Gridlock. And 42. As you said, the rest of the first half is wasted. But you know what? It's still one of my favourite seasons DESPITE all the awful episodes at the start because the last six episodes are THAT good. At least in my opinion. Most people agree that Human nature, Family of blood and Blink are some of the best episodes ever (if not THE best), but there isn't that same kind of fandom-wide consensus with the other three. Probably because of the end of the season. It's beyond weird but it works for me.
For some reason my favorite season is the fifth one despite the fact that the main companion really gets on my nerves.
Oh, and speaking of Gallifrey, I'm currently watching the old episodes from 1963-1964 and there's a part in The Sensorites in which Susan describes the planet, and she talks about orange skies and silver leaves on the trees. Now that's continuity.

Just saw Human Nature/Family of Blood and it was excellent! Wonderful premise and I almost cried at the end, when he imagines a family and peaceful life. Seeing Blink on Friday with a friend.
Smith and Jones was okay. Same with 42.
That IS a sign of good writing! I'm planning to watch Classic Who when I finish with the revival era. Is it any good? One of my friends says she doesn't like it too much, but she loves NuWho.

'Told ya
Is the old series any good? Well, I've only seen the first season of William Hartnell and only one Tom Baker story (City of Death - it's really good), so I can't tell for the series as a whole.
The very first twenty-minutes episode (An Unearthly child) is early-tv gold, some parts of the Daleks first story are really great, I loved The Aztecs and liked most of The Sensorites. On the other hand, some parts and/or stories are horribly slow-paced. Some of the costumes and effects still look pretty good (the inside of the Tardis, the city of the Daleks, the Daleks themselves, the beach at the beginning of the Marinus story, some very unnerving scenes with the Sensorites), other look terrible no matter how good your suspension of disbelief is. Also the first Doctor is a complete jerk in the beginning (a very funny one though), but he adjusts his attitude after a couple of stories.

I probably WILL see it anyway.
One question: am I the only one who loves Rose/Mickey and not Rose/Doctor?
π: 0 β©: 1
JohannesVIII In reply to writerperson101 [2014-04-09 18:23:56 +0000 UTC]
No idea. I think Rose/Mickey was a bit toxic - Rose was really mean to him and he would let it slide most of the time. Not as desesperately toxic as Martha/Ten, though.
I like Rose/Nine because it isn't romance, more like some kind of strong friendship with a cute side to it. Rose/Ten makes me feel a bit uncomfortable, I mean it's logical within the story itself but they both look like awkward teenagers smiling at each other constantly. It's still super cute in an awkward way at times though.

I think what bothers me most about the Doctor/any human is that it is a bit creepy, really. He's nine hundred, after all, and Rose is 19-20.
Agreed. Rose/Nine was just a close bond, but then in Ten's era they developed it into a romance.

I'd say losing Rose. After this, we still had the Doctor. But after Doomsday, we lost Rose.
Months later, I still cry just about anytime I see fanart of her.

JohannesVIII In reply to GoldenHeartXx [2014-04-05 18:34:04 +0000 UTC]
I think there's some sort of recurring theme here. The only time these two kissed, Rose wasn't really Rose. In New Earth, Rose wasn't herself either since she was "possessed" by Cassandra. And then there's the infamous scene at the end of the fourth season, and it's still the same situation ; she kissed the clone, not Ten.

I started watching Doctor Who, because I am huge David Tennant Fan. And I started with Eccleston (of course) and was totally looking forward to finishing his season to start with David. I didn't expect that I would love the man so much and cry so hard when it was his time to go.
And your picture captures all those emotions so well.

Before this episode, I was still watching the series kind of casually despite the fact that I really liked some episodes. The Parting of the Ways made me realize how much I actually cared about the characters and I think it was the tipping point to make me a fan.
I initially didn't like Tennant that much to be honest. He was funny but that was about it. He grew on me rather quickly, though (four episodes).
Fun fact: I kinda converted my father to Doctor Who, and we watch one episode or two each time I visit him during the weekend (I try to skip some that aren't good). We've finished the first season three weeks ago and he was downright pissed off when Nine regenerated into Ten, like "What the- What? Who's that guy?? Bring the other one back!".
Then we watched The Christmas Invasion and he decided that Ten was ok, after all
