Description Small watercolor paintings based on screencaps from the Doctor Who episode The Impossible Planet (Series 2, episode 8).

It may be weird, but I think The Impossible Planet is a lot better than The Satan Pit. The atmosphere is excellent.

1-"Just stand there, because I'm going to hug you. Is that all right? "
2-I'm not always very fond of Rose and Ten in S2, but that scene was incredibly cute.
3-"We are the Legion of the Beast."

I loved the first part of this too, but I was kinda disappointed by The Satan Pit. Also we met the Ood, which was just phenomenal.

Same here.
We watched these episodes recently when I visited my dad and he likes the Oods too. I'm really glad he's enjoying this series.
Last Saturday we watched Army of Ghosts and he was very excited to see the Daleks ("Ooooooh it's these guys!! How are they called again??"). I'm looking forward to see his reaction to the next episode xD

How did he react to Nine's regeneration?

He was surprised and pissed off at the same time. "Hey who the hell are you?? You're not the Doctor. Bring back the other guy."
One episode later, he already thought Ten was pretty cool.

I missed Christopher Eccleston horribly until he started to grow on me in School Reunion. Thinking about it I think I might like him as much as Nine.

I'm still not sure if I like him as much as Nine, or more, or less, or anything.

I think my favorite Doctor at the moment is Eight. I'm in the middle of the Divergent Universe arc, loathed by many Big Finish fans, and I actually love a lot of stories in it so far (three out of the five I've listen to so far), what's bad is really bad but the good stories are either good and a bit Douglas Adams-like (Faith Stealer) or incredibly weird and kinda brilliant (Scherzo and The Natural History of Fear). A lot of people told me that it features Eight at his worst (he's depressed because there's no time in the Divergent Universe, so he has lost all his Timelord senses, which he compares to being blind or missing a leg), so if that's the worst he has to offer, I can't wait to listen to his actual "seasons" (all his early stories were produced in the Main Range of Big Finish, then they created a distinct category for his stories and he had actual seasons of episodes).

By the way, I got around to seeing a bunch of episodes and just finished The God Complex. I quite liked it, even if the explanation was a bit silly. The ending though. Just ... oh my Feels.

Maybe I love it so much because I adore this type of story, you know, when there's a bunch of people stuck inside an unescapable structure and they start to go a bit crazy while trying to figure out what's going on. Cube and The Thing are among my favorite movies and they are built on the exact same trope. Midnight  is entirely like that too, come to think of it.

It was definitely a lot like Cube, which I also love. Actually, the only episode I disliked in Season Six so far was Let's Kill Hitler. I started to dislike River around A Good Man Goes to War, and the next episode didn't really help her case.

I know that she's rather popular, but she's awkwardly drawn. I feel like Moffat is trying too hard to create a "strong female character" that's clever, badass, sexy, etc. That isn't to say her scenes with Eleven don't make me laugh because they're just so adorable together, but as a character she annoys me a little.

Amen. I started to dislike her a bit earlier, but the problem is the same. Also she started as an interesting, independant character and now her entire damn life revolves around the Doctor. That's really annoying.

I'll just wait here until you've seen The Wedding of River Song. It's the nail in the coffin of the whole River Song arc.

Well, between the last comments I set aside time to watch Closing Time. As an individual episode I didn't like it too much, but that ending. Oh my God that ending.

She did start as interesting and I loved her in Silence in the Library, but she's gotten a bit boring too.

You know I loved The Lodger, so I was surprised to dislike Closing Time. I even thought it was cringe-worthy at times. Especially Cyber-conversion being defeated by the power of love. Seriously?

I *love* the scene at the beginning in which Eleven tries to work in a shop, though. Very cute and funny. I'm also pretty sure the "Look, they gave me a badge with my name on in case I forget who I am. Very thoughtful, as that does happen" was a shot at Eight, who tends to get amnesia VERY OFTEN like a running gag of sorts.

I realized what they were going to do with that. The whole time I was silently mouthing "Oh God no Oh God no Oh God no" because Gareth Roberts was turning DW into a Disney movie. Okay. So there are two bad episodes in Season Six. So far.

The scene was very endearing, and I really think the Doctor WOULD get a kick out of working in a toy shop/department.

The problem is not really the bad episodes, it's that there's a whole bunch of average ones and a crap arc, and said arc makes like five episodes entirely pointless in my eyes.

Also for the record, I think Night Terrors is the worst episode of S6.

writerperson101 In reply to JohannesVIII [2014-06-11 20:17:06 +0000 UTC]

What, really? I loved Night Terrors. The idea of the child being a perception filter was silly, and maybe not everything was explained very well. But it still creeped the living hell out of me. And the Peg Dolls made it to my list of Top Ten scariest Doctor Who monsters.

JohannesVIII In reply to writerperson101 [2014-06-11 20:28:02 +0000 UTC]

For me, it wasn't scary, the monsters looked stupid, it dragged on forever, it was basically the same plot as Fear her, most of the things weren't explained in the end, and despite a few good lines (pantaphobia, teehee), most of the humor didn't make me laugh. Oh, and I hate that supposedly creepy nursery rhyme.

So yeah, basically it once again depends on personal taste. Let's say that if you're not scared by it, there's not much left.

The Wedding of River Song was ... okay. It really felt more like any episode than a finale.

JohannesVIII In reply to writerperson101 [2014-06-12 15:31:35 +0000 UTC]

It was "okay"?! It's incredibly rushed and it's a massive cop out that didn't answer half the questions that S6 asked!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

writerperson101 In reply to JohannesVIII [2014-06-12 21:41:52 +0000 UTC]

It WAS rushed. Finales need two-parters, they really do. I think I sort of assumed some of the questions would be answered in S7.

JohannesVIII In reply to writerperson101 [2014-06-12 21:47:36 +0000 UTC]

HAHAHAhaha no they won't.
So... that finale is rushed, messy, AND it leaves gaping plotholes EVERYWHERE.

Some of them will be answered in Time of the Doctor (mostly about the Silence) but even the answers make no sense for the most part and/or open more plotholes.

I know there's an enormous debate about who's better, Moffat or Davies. I think neither. In my opinion they work best together, Moffat to help keep a little bit of subtlety to the episodes, which he used to do beautifully, but Moffat needs Davies to keep his thoughts organized.

JohannesVIII In reply to writerperson101 [2014-06-13 14:57:55 +0000 UTC]

Davies' "world" is in general a lot brighter than Moffat's and still not as consequence-free. So yeah, despite its metric ton of problems and its lack of subtlety, I prefer Davies'. For the most part.

I think the best episodes were Moffat's episodes under Davies.

They are very good for the most part, and at first I thought they were the best too, but they have some sort of diminishing return. Especially Blink and The girl in the fireplace.

I was actually disappointed when the Angels came back. They were such perfect monsters, and I think the episode (on its own) was genius. There's only one plothole that I detected, and it's not so much a plothole as it is a glitch. Then it had to be ruined by The Time of Angels. The fact that the Weeping Angels break your neck was stupid, it made them far less interesting.

Not quite sure what you mean by Girl in the Fireplace though. It's not the most memorable episode of Moffat's, or even of Season Two. I only saw it once, and a while back. Could you explain?

JohannesVIII In reply to writerperson101 [2014-06-14 08:04:58 +0000 UTC]

Each time I rewatched it, it just got a little worse. For a ton of reasons. Most of these reasons concern Mme de Pompadour.

How so?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JohannesVIII In reply to writerperson101 [2014-06-15 05:38:47 +0000 UTC]

This may only be frustrating for history nerds like me, but Mme de Pompadour was anything but a damsel in distress. She gained her nobility titles. She was one of the King's advisors. She helped writers and philosophers, like Voltaire and Diderot, to publish some of their works that were censored! A lot of people hated her in Versailles and yet she was still very powerful there. So it's really disappointing to see her portrayed like she is in that episode.

Also the Doctor basically abandons Rose and Mickey on that ship. No, seriously, he had no idea he would be able to come back. He's acting out of character in a good part of the story.

Oh, I'm a history nerd too, but at school we're only allowed to learn Canadian history until eleventh year, something I find very annoying because Canadian history is just awful. Luckily, next year I'll be able to take world history.

That's very true actually. He could have left them on that ship and been stranded there in the 18th century. Never thought of that. Girl in the Fireplace is a little hazier for me, since I watched that episode over a holiday. My friends and I met up and just had a marathon of almost the entire second season, so it all sort of blends together.

I recently re-watched Human Nature/Family of Blood and I think it's a much better episode. The only thing that annoys me is that the boy who plays Baines is a pretty bad actor and it stands out.

You know, I love to discuss these things with you, because sometimes we have completely different opinions - I thought the guy who played Son-of-Mine (Baines) was creepy as hell. His constant fixed half-smile... O_O

writerperson101 In reply to JohannesVIII [2014-06-16 19:05:29 +0000 UTC]

The woman who played Mother-of-Mine and the man who played Father-of-Mine were okay, and the kid who played Daughter-of-Mine (Lucy) was actually pretty good, but yes. The smile was just disturbing, the constantly wide eyes freaked me out, and the shouting was overdone.

Otherwise, the acting on the part of guests was pretty good.
