Description
Hmm... not sure which category to place this in, or whether to name it "Ink" or something to do with smoke. This one was fun! I finally have a powerful-enough computer to simulate something like this.
Not sure how many particles it was... but well over 75 million. I think.
Weirdly enough, I have trouble lighting things properly with Krakatoa. However, post-work generally takes care of the fiddly bits.
In case you're wondering, the original particles were brown.
As always, just note me and I'll send you the full rez wallpaper. Remember, personal use only. No reuploading or using for anything but a desktop wallpaper without my expressed permission.
So! What do you guys think? Does it seem fairly realistic to you?
Tools: Max/FumeFX/Krakatoa/AE
FumeFX Sim time: 1 hour
Krakatoa Partitioning sim time: overnight? Not sure how long it took. 6 hours or so...
Krakatoa Rendering time: 20 minutes
Feedback, anyone?

Thank you! It does kinda look like some sort of disintegrating effect.

Now this is pretty cool love the technique, the perspective of the shot, looks great.
Only thing I'd suggest is that right now the smoke feels almost 'solid' not really smoke like. Looks more like what happens when you mix two liquids of different colours together, then smoke. Possibly making it more 'lighter' feeling and see through, almost foggier will help the object look more like smoke and less like liquid

Check out the title. I figured it looked more like ink then smoke, so I named it as such.

Thanks! That was my intention... although it is a little squirrelly in terms of shading.
Love your artwork, by the way.

great artwork!
would it be possible to share it in a higher resolution? (e.g. 1680)

Nope, sorry. I only rendered it at 1920x1080. To get it bigger, I'd basically have to recreate it entirely.

Hmm... try this tutorial for fumeFX: [link]
And use this for an idea about fumeFX and Krakatoa together: [link]
There aren't any really good free tutorials out there for this subject.

looks amazing !!, i think that with a litle more chaos and not so lineal in the fluid and maybe more volumetric like more dense and concentrate in the center this would be even more realistic , Just try to contirbute ^^ , equally its very realistic !!!
