Description
Treasure!!!Ah, how I wish this were real...
This was fun to make! I modeled and rendered everything from scratch.
Tools: 3DS Max 2011, VRay 1.5, Photoshop CS5
Render Time: 1 hour
Any suggestions?

Yeah... I bumped it up all the way to 2.47, which is the recommended value for diamonds, but it still looks funky...
Any suggestions?

Beautiful. Too bad people have lost their souls, killed, lied, and commit all kind of crimes because of "treasures".

So true... not me, though!
I am above such trivial pursuits.

Couple of suggestions; first add some fake dispersion to the diamonds....make them look many many times better :0
Also try to make a bump map for the coins? They look completely out of place as it is...IMO.
Your diamond model could use a tad bit of work too...where the "corner" is, the chamfer should be like a zigzag thing...see this reference to see what I mean: [link]
Great start!

Hmm... dispersion could be done using VRay 2.0...
Yeah, my coins suck. I'll fix it eventually... probably get a texture from online.
Good god! Diamonds are more complicated than I thought! Nice ref.
I'll give it a shot...
Thanks for the suggestions!

There's a dispersion hack for 1.5 -- take a VRayBlendMtl, no base material, however many other materials you want. Assign each a slightly different IOR (Diamond is 2.38-2.44 according to my physics proff, depending on the wavelength of light)and put the "mix amount" to a different color. If you do three materials, one mix is 255 red, 0 green 0 blue; one is 255 green, 0 red 0 blue, and so on. You can use as many different layers as you want using different colors (always RGB, primary, or secondary colors as to not interfere too much) to get added effects.
Not as good as "real" dispersion, but it can work.
This just got done rendering for me (I've been working on diamonds for quite some time as well) earlier today: [link]
But that's using VRay 2.0 and dispersion.
Also, I just noticed that you seem to have a coin sticking through another Just behind the front, right side diamond.

Hmm... I just got VRay 2.0, so I'll give it a shot.
WTF! Dang reactor messed up again... I guess i'll delete that coin.
Nice diamonds! Much better model than mine...
Thanks for all your help! Wish I could give you another llama...

Oh, who wouldn't want a big pile of diamonds and gold
Great materials
