Description I used to wonder why Tigress didn't smile at Po's "See that? It's called being awesome." line, especially since she smirked at so many other comments earlier in the film. Eventually, it hit me: She's mad at Ox and Croc for pushing Po around, and after their less-than-courageous insistence on staying in prison, her opinion of them seemed to get gradually worse.

Whoa! I thought I managed to capture all the symbolisms and undercurrents... must've missed this one.

Great job deciphering the meaning of that frame!

She truly doesn't like seeing anyone threaten harm at Po- Don't forget there's Tigress baring her teeth at Shen when he points a blade at Po. And I might be remembering incorrectly, but I recall her glaring angrily at the Boss Wolf when he slugs Po in the stomach.

I do imagine that part of her doesn't like it when Po fawns over her kung fu abilities- as if to say to him: "Stop being such a fanboy. You're like us: a warrior with his own individual strengths and weaknesses- just like me."

I agree that she shows a lot of protectiveness towards Po. In particular, she always seems to be keeping a close eye on him throughout the movie. In addition to the examples you listed, her actions throughout the fireworks factory scene were pretty revealing, and then there's the way she always seems to catch him and help him up whenever he stumbles or falls.

I actually disagree with your second point though: I think she actually kind of likes Po's fanboy-ism, to a degree. On the boat, for instance, when she tells him about the ironwood trees and he responds with "that's severely cool", she seems to genuinely enjoy the compliment. When you consider that Shifu never really gave her any praise while she was growing up, it makes some sense that she might like having someone around now who appreciates her.

That said, I do completely agree with you about the individual strengths and weaknesses ("I don't think hard-style is your thing"). I think she wants Po to continue being himself and doing things his own way instead of trying to be exactly like her. As an interesting side-note to that, they kind of have a not-so-subtle Yin-Yang thing going on, it would seem: Dragon/Tiger, Male/Female, Soft/Hard, etc.

It's really telling that in the climactic battle of Po vs the cannons, Po won by using Tai-Chi movements (hence, 'soft style') to deflect the cannonballs.

I can't quite decipher her emotions on the second shot. The first shot, she was amazed at Po, just like Shifu. The second one... happy? Excited?

Without rechecking the scene right now, I felt it was somewhat of a look of pride or admiration, as though she were happy that Po finally managed to concentrate and defeat Shen HIS way. Perhaps a "that's it!" sort of a look?

"That's it!" sounds suitable...

Or maybe the "hell, yeah!" when you're rooting for your football team
