Squall is the most uninteresting character in the series. Vaan is very close but at least, Vaan has a dream, yknow. Just no personality. Squall has nothing going on. At all. Ever. His so called character development was so sudden and forced, eughhh

Just kidding...
He'll never be as cool as Cloud though...
Or the super human king of coolness Sephiroth NOW that guy is a guy who truly doesn't give a flying fuck about anything XD (Except Genova... and Cloud... Kinda...)

hahaha!
I always liked Zell/Xell sooo much better than Squall, hihi.
Though I'd have chosen Irvine ;D

Yeah Irvine is a ladies man but i wanted to draw Zell with hotdogs

RavenNights In reply to JohnDevlin [2011-04-26 22:19:58 +0000 UTC]
Did you know that originally he was after Yakisoba? They only changed it to Hotdogs for the US and European versions, haha.
But yeah, Zell is hilarious!
I always played with him and Irvine. The girls never stood a chance, haha.

Ah thats weird. It's like in Pokemon they change all the dumplings to doughnuts for western audiences
My setup was Zell and Rinoa. couldnt beat Rinoa's final abilities.
π: 0 β©: 1
RavenNights In reply to JohnDevlin [2011-04-26 23:00:29 +0000 UTC]
Oh, did they?
But dumplings are really popular in Middle Europe... I don't know about the German version, though, never played PokΓ©mon... ^^
I have to admit in FF I always go with the coolest instead of the most useful folks, haha.
It's darn easy, anyway ;D

JohnDevlin In reply to RavenNights [2011-04-26 23:03:13 +0000 UTC]
Well in the animated Pokemon they actually change alot of stuff for America and we get the american cuts.
You thought FFVIII was easy! Thats the toughest in my opinion
π: 0 β©: 1
RavenNights In reply to JohnDevlin [2011-04-26 23:08:42 +0000 UTC]
Uhm .. yeah, quite, haha.
But I'm always leveling up to max level, anyway, so in the end the bosses are peanuts, haha.
I think the toughest one was XII - because of the last optional boss (this huge dragon).
XIII's last optional one might beat that, but I've not finished him off, yet.
I don't know why I even finished XII... I didn't like it, but I still spent 160 hours on it. Insane, hu? I just felt like I needed to defend my reputation as an FF expert which means I need to have seen EVERYTHING in ALL of the games, haha.

JohnDevlin In reply to RavenNights [2011-04-26 23:15:47 +0000 UTC]
Ah I was kinda the same. But what about all the dark Aeons in X? like Penance. I could't kill half of them.
I hated XII at first because it didnt have any heart in the story but I recleared it like last year and it wasn't as bad as I thought. But still a boring story. 160 hours might be slightly insane haha

RavenNights In reply to JohnDevlin [2011-04-26 23:44:22 +0000 UTC]
I did all of those in X though I used Yojimbo on some ;D
Still, they died and I saw the following sequence, that's enough
I love X! My second fav together with VIII
Still no match for IX, tough, haha.
Yeah, same here.
I hate the story and that ruins the entire game.
I'm not one for political stories, anyway, but that game didn't even deliver a *good* political story, so nah...
I also hated that they gave you the option to explore huge areas but didn't put anything in it to actually discover. I spent literally hours running around plains finding nothing but three knots of rust or some other useless crap. That was really demotivating. Just like the fact that treasure were random and could be the best weapon in the game or another freaking knot of rust.
I loved the little extra scenes in XIII for example - something like that in XII as a reward for taking a look around everywhere in the world plus set treasures and that game would have been way better - way more rewarding at least.

JohnDevlin In reply to RavenNights [2011-04-27 00:11:44 +0000 UTC]
Wow i cannot believe you actually done all those X boss's. That's very cool. I should do some X art. I used to always draw X summons in school A friend suggested i draw Yojimbo in this monh but I was never motivated to do so.
Did you actually like XIII? And have you played any of the online ones?
π: 0 β©: 1
RavenNights In reply to JohnDevlin [2011-04-27 00:19:50 +0000 UTC]
Haha, yeah, you should
And if you wanna do something else than Yojimbo, let it be one that shows the connection between Tidus and the Faith. I just sooo loved that story
Yeah, I liked XIII a lot.
The only thing I didn't like was that there was absolutely nothing to do after finishing the main story apart from doing all those optional fights and that Chocobo stuff. I would have loved some additional story bits like in the other ones...
Oh, and I didn't like that you couldn't go back to Cocoon.
I've played XI for a while but I didn't like it too much.
Stopped after only a few levels.
I didn't even try XIV... FF is an offline series to me and it should stay that way.
If they managed to make it a really good game, great, but it's hard to miss that the only reason they're publishing MMOs is because everyone does nowadays and they feel like they also had to. They should focus on what they're good at, but unfortunately instead of making really good old-school RPGs they somehow seem to feel the need to focus on serving the western market - and fail miserably. And the result are games that are neither good western, nor good old-school J-games...

JohnDevlin In reply to RavenNights [2011-04-27 00:38:34 +0000 UTC]
Ah A pic with a Tidus and faith theme would be nice. It's also something I'd wanna take my time with and spend days colouring
The very first pic i ever got the the DA front page with was one of Tidus and Yuna under the Moonflow. The scene when they kiss. I really loved that part. In FF games I was always a fan of Romance and there love was the best one in my opinion.
I also played XI for a month or so. Since I'd never played an MMO before that i assumed it was good at the time then i stopped when i discovered WoW. I actually like an idiot got XIV and it's by far the biggest waste of time I've ever had. It's the only game I ever played that made me actually hate Final Fantasy for those moments.
And yes you are completely right on the fact FF was best offline and Square are trying things that aren't working for them.
Hironobu Sakaguchi made a game for the Wii that isn't out over here yet called The Last Story. It's gotten good feedback in Japan Hopefully it'll capture the magic FF once had

RavenNights In reply to JohnDevlin [2011-04-27 00:47:18 +0000 UTC]
I look forward to seeing it!
I also loved that scene and their story. It felt real, not set-up like most FF love stories
I also loved X-2 for that, though many hate that game. I think it was the perfect ending to X and the change Yuna went through seemed completely logical to me after what had happened to her in X...
Hehe, yeah, I thought about getting it, too, but then I watched a few vids and decided I won't. I also didn't want to support that crap by paying for it - call it silent protest, haha.
Sakaguchi still makes great games.
I loved both Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon. Those games are what FF used to be - really good J-RPGs with catching stories and likeable characters as well as great (traditional) gameplay. It's too bad Squeenix doesn't think too much of the saying "never change a running system"... despite the fact that Dragon Quest is still one of the best-selling series ever though it's been featuring the same gameplay system for more than 20 years now. Too weird they don't see the connection...
I'm also looking forward to Last Story
Been waiting for that for a while now.

X-2 was great for me for what it was. Certain things people bring up as reasons to hate it is unfair. I even have a 12 inch viynl statue of X-2 Yuna on my Art desk
The only thing I'm iffu about is that if you get the full secret ending Tidus comes back to life fully and they are together again. This ruins the beauty that X's ending had i think.
Never played any of his Mistwalker games cause i don't have a Xbox... I'd really love to play them though.

hehe, hey, John, we found something we disagree on, haha.
A first, I think ;D
I really loved that he did come back. I see it that way that at the end of X he disappeared cause he was nothing but a dream of the Faith but since Yuna didn't stop thinking about and searching for him in the end of X-2 it was her thoughts and dreams that had him manifest in the real world again. I'm not sure that's really what it's supposed to be but it's the way I interpret it and there's nothing in the game that contradicts it, hehe.

JohnDevlin In reply to RavenNights [2011-04-27 01:24:19 +0000 UTC]
Haha yeah I suppose so. If you look at it that way But I still think X ended in a very beautiful way and knowing that he isn't really gone (not really) ruins it for me. I liked feeling sad. When I cleared X for the first time I remember standing up and feeling something twisting at my heart like I wanted to change what happened so badly but couldn't. wanting them to be together forever. I got the same feeling from (don't laugh) The movie Vanilla Sky.
If we knew each other in real life I'm sure we would find alot more stuff to disagree on

RavenNights In reply to JohnDevlin [2011-04-27 01:29:14 +0000 UTC]
haha, yeah, probably! ;D
I never saw Vanilla Sky but I understand what you mean about the end of X ... that's why I loved X-2's ending so much, cause it made up for that (I didn't like being sad... got to do with personal experience but losing someone with no chance of getting him bad is something that drives me insane with sadness/despair - even if I only witness it with others).
And I really love the idea I described before. I have a VERY subtle cheesy side to me but that's exactly the kind of cheesy stuff I love, haha.

I understand why you like it then. next time someone rips into X-2 and it's ending I'll back it up and argue it in your favor
Do try see Vanilla Sky. I really loved that movie. I'm not sure many others do.
