My first tutorial. I started a really long time ago, but just finished it today. I hope it sort of makes sense, and it's not too cluttered =_=Part 1...Part 2...Part 3

for the other comment, the positioning of the layers matter. so if your new layer was over the lines, it would cover the lines, unless you made the layer a "multiply" layer, then you could see through it. It could also be that you are painting on the layer with the lines on it without realizing.
as for this comment's question, a palette is basically just the colours you plan on using. it's not really a step on it's own, but part of the step. you don't blend the palette, that was just to show how it would look. the palette is just a little circle of the separate colours you use, make sure you're using the pen tool when you make it, so the colour is whole, and not transparent. the reason you have a palette is so that if you need to go back to a colour, you can just pick the "eyedropper colour picking tool" and click on the colour in your palette, so you can paint in the same colours (otherwise they would be lost)
to blend the colours, you just use the "water" tool (the one beside the brush tool) and brush over the edges of the colours. It's make the edges blurry, thus blending them. hope that helped. ^-^

I'm very confused>.<, I already started mine like I colored the hair and the eyes and saved it. But then when I came back to it and made a new layer fer the skin, I keep going over it and the lines like erase or something

I hate coloring in Sai. When I need something to blend I have to use like 3 things for blur and in the end I have like a zillion different skin colors and such :C

I think it depends on the artist's style. That usually would determine which painting program works best for them. I (being a SAI user, but photoshop too) would ask you give it a second try, but just play around with a bunch of programs and find the right one for you ^-^

Yea, I draw much better than what I post. But it's an utter pain, I heard the American pain programs are eraser, but that's a lie :C.
I use like Manga Art, CS4, Managa Debut x4, Sai, Gimp (when I'm uber lazy, Pro art 04 and such.
But I guess it's the way I color. I like things to blend smoothly and not go color to color (well kinda depends on the picture).
I use Sai but a simple picture may take up to 3 hours XD

Hooooooray! Finally a Sai tutorial! I've been looking for one for so long. :3 But wouldn't it be easier to just lightly use the blur tool to blend the skin? Then you wouldn't have to worry about the color you chose for the watercolor.
*I'm American, so I don't have a "u". I never actually paid much attention to the different spellings before though. xD

Actually if you use the water tool by itself, you really can't see the colour that comes through, so it doesn't matter so much. I dunno, I just have something against the blur tool. With water you can keep some of the lines crisper, since the skin sometimes casts shadows and such, and the blur just kinda doesn't have the same effect. but I guess it's personal preference.

Are you sure this is the full version.
When I downloaded, it did pretty much everything a normal download would be, and when I opened it up after it downloaded, it told me it was on day 7 of trial.
