Description Updated version of the grand opera, with squiggles!  I dunno, I think the squiggles add to the story of the image, kinda like a mad, capering, wandering path.  Sometimes smooth, sometimes jagged, sometimes going forward, sometimes back-peddling.  A metaphor for life!

Squiggles are fine - they tie it all together.
Gotta love Benny Hill - so politically incorrect!

Funny, very funny - but of course I lke the ones where he disrobes nubile young women who then they all chase him around to the theme music. We went to Sweden many years ago and his show was on TV at the farm we were staying at. They thought it was hilarious and it was even though it was dubbed into Swedish.

Those old English comedians were the best!  The two ronnies, Rowan Atkinson, The Young Ones, French and Saunders.  No one does comedy like the Brits - American stuff I typically find canned in comparison, though there are some exceptions.

'No, follow the holy sandal, it is written'

Lol - they did a Oddfellows ad based on that song.  I just have so many Monty Python favourites.  Loved Life of Brian, The Holy Grail (killer rabbits, awesome), The Art of Not Being Seen.

Could be your hard disc has gone, they can do that quite spontaneously and its then pretty much a disaster - unless you've been backing up thoroughly.
Sounds like a job for Mr PC Nerd to see if they can get it going or at least recover your hard drive contents and then dig deep for a super fast new one.

I've had it happen to me with all my business files on, it was pretty catastrophic (and embarassing) and since then I've been much more thorough about backing up.
Remote hard drives that you can back up to and that are accessible from anywhere on the internet (personal clouds I guess) are a great idea but you could back up your critical stuff to Dropbox or similar quite safely and for free.

Sorry for slow replies, limited dA time just recently

What up with limited dA time - hope it is only a busy time work wise and not anything more stressful

Yes, dropbox seems to be the way to go I reckon - and also an online calender and emailing system - put what I can in the cloud, back the rest up on an external hard drive.  Definitely learned my lesson.  My ex reckons he may still have my computer files backed up from when I changed computers about 5 years ago, so might retrieve some historical stuff that way.  There is also a fair bit online, which is good.

I'm getting clients to send me the last invoice I sent them so I can continue my invoicing from there.  Not worried about having the physical invoices as I can link their payments to my online bank statements.  As to my receipts, I was quite diligent to always have physical copies of those - like printing out anything from online as I went too, so tax wise I am ok.

I lost all of my fractals, but the very best of them, my ex has in high render for printing - so keep the best, forget the rest.  He probably has all of the pics of Jaz and us as a young family too, and the best of those pics got shared with rellies, printed, etc - so really would only be losing the low quality stuff you just don't seem to part with anyway.

I would have lost all of my writings on books, well anything I didn't upload.  But there is still a 50/50 chance the drive can be resurrected long enough to get the data off it - it has gone to a specialist that owes the ex a favour, so won't cos me anything.  Meanwhile, he has lent me a computer to use while he builds me a high spec one for about $600 (which would normally cost $1600 or more in stores, and the components wouldn't be as good.  My folks have offered to pay for the new computer.  So all in all, I think I'll come out of this reasonably well.

It can be frustrating at times having to do absolutely everything. I guess its akin to being a single parent. Im okay with it generally but I do miss a bit of "me time" on occasion.

Sounds like you are pretty sorted. I use Google for contacts and Calendar, its very user friendly and works, seamlessly between PC, laptop and phone / tablet.

I dont use google storage much, it works fine but Dropbox is much better for file sharing.

As for the irretievable... Just have to shrug shoulders and let it go. Good on your family etc. for rallying round.

Yeah, my family has been great, really rallied around to take the pain of the loss away.  So awesome, I'm such a lucky girl.

Google calendar - will have to look into that.  Thanks.

Yeah, doing everything can be exhausting.  I must admit I do get rather lazy on it at times.  Might not hoover for awhile or mow the lawns.  If I wasn't such an internet addict - hahaha.  Stay on top of the washing and dishes though.

Yayy for families.

Could be an idea to hire someone to come in and do a clean for you - say weekly, fortnightly or 3 weekly - someone who does all the dusting, wiping, scrubbing, mopping, vacuuming, polishing - you know, someone who does the 'cleaning', while you focus on doing the 'tidying'.  This could take some pressure off without being too expensive or intrusive.

DriPoint In reply to jojo22 [2014-04-09 22:24:30 +0000 UTC]

Its certainly an idea but so much of our house is in turmoil due to ongoing renovations I fear a cleaner would be struggling to know where to start. We've spent this week planning a strategy for the next few years and I must admit I feel considerably better about things now we've taken some advice and set some balls in motion, it's surprising how subtly these things can prey on the mind.

Yes, I saw all your comments - thanks so much, I will reply in further detail on some of them.  Well, I guess my practice is starting to pay off in terms of developing a better eye, technique, etc.  Still got a long way to go, but nice to know that others can detect a progression, means I'm headed in the right direction - yay!

Hmm, the boss guy has not been as up lately, I think perhaps because he has not had as much work on, so that's taken the wind out of his sails a bit.  I dunno, he's probably not all that impressed by me - I was burnt out a bit in Dec/Jan.  Then I lost all my computer stuff over the past week.

But he can also be quite difficult.  Like I pulled out some dead ornamental grasses, so he quizzes me about them 'were they dead?' 'Yes, they were, but I have some self seeding around the place at home, so I can take some from my garden and plant them up here.' 'Oh, ok.'  So I do it, then I get 'they aren't the same colours as the other ones.'  'Oh, ok, well I have a variety of colours at home.' 'Oh, do you?  I want the from garden area planted out with ornamental grasses.'

Then he's like 'did you spray these plants over here cos they've died' (they were like irises, they have a bulb structure, so they do die off).  'Nope, I didn't spray those, don't they usually die off?'  'Well, yeah, but I've not noticed them die off quite like that.' 'Well, there has been quite a drought this year.'

I'm like FFS!  I didn't kill your irises, I didn't kill your ornamental grasses, I didn't have to replace your fucking ornamental grasses for fucking free, let alone have to listen to you bitch about them not being exactly the same colour and then thinking you can plant out your entire front garden with my free ornamental grass selection from home!

Not only that!  I used my good will to source him an incinerator for a grand total of $15.  Usually, you could buy smaller crapper ones for $120+

The only reason he got it so cheap was because my good will got it cheap, and the bastard wanted change out of $20.
