I wanted to do a kind of dragon slayer pokemon. So of course it had to be some kind of knight and steel type to go along with it. But mono steel was too boring for my taste and, considering that most dragons can breath fire, not that helpful.
Then I had an idea: Why not base it on christian crusaders? They are a less fantasy like concept than dragon slayers and open up some possibilities. Such as this: I thought farther and the next thing that popped up, were witch hunts. Those aren't necessarily a thing the crusaders took part in, but they are tied to christianity, as are crusaders. A little link and the second type was decided, mainly to be able to use two moves:
Incinerate and Inferno(the japanese name is Purgatory).
Now, I'm aware that this might be a touchy subject to some, but GF decided to go that route with Jynx way back, so it's legitimate, in my opinion.
I added a little sketch btw to show that it doesn't always hide behind that shield.
