Great tips. Always forget about lowering the opacity when doing a rough sketch.

I know it's late but here's my drawing of a dragon BEFORE the tutorial:

The only way I knew how to make a dragon was draw a "S" shaped line, and the rest was much more difficult.. I hope you like it. ^^

hey man i gotta know, do you use and actual airbrush pen or some kind of downloaded brush, because your shading and highlights blend so well while mine dont blend at all

Wow this is really helpful
When you said that the only brush you use is the hard round airbrush, what settings do you use? for example, the pen pressure and scattering. i can never make a brush that gives the same effect yours does

It's a great tutorial (: thanks for posting! I wonder if you could suggest me what kind of references could be helpful to improve at drawing dragons ? As they're not a 'real' creature it's kinda difficult to think which animal to study or how to gather all the references D: Thank you! (:

If you haven't got a better program yet I'd recommend paint.net. it's free and far better than ms paint. Not photoshop good (i think, or maybe it's just me being useless) but still pretty good

I have a question about the brushes you use, what is the Opacity and Flow when you work on your sketch / shadow? Both 100%?
Much appreciated.

About the brushes... I couldn't get it the first time either but I did the following and got his brush... Choose the "round hard opacity brush" from your basic brushes than do the following. Select "Shape dynamics", "transfer", "airbrush" and "smoothing".
In the "shape dynamics" menu make sure everything is at 0% and that the size jitter is set to pen pressure.
For "transfer" menu make sure that opacity jitter is set to pen pressure and everything is set at 0%.
And there you go. You have his brush.
Hope this helps.
