I have to admit that I didn't understand the joke at all.Β  The last kid is unhappy for some reason... was it a bad movie?Β  It didn't have a happy ending?Β  Because it's just the same story and toys. over again?Β  I saw they all until the last one, but just didn't get it.

Pierre-Chanliau In reply to TaralWayne [2018-03-19 14:44:43 +0000 UTC]

The toys in the last panel are based on the character from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story which ends with all the main characters dying in a suicide mission to get the Death Star plans. The joke is that they do not have continuing adventures like Luke, Han, Anakin, and Obi-Wan after their first appearance.

I'll be honest, I did not see it because I knew what was coming. Had a bad feeling about it seeing as I hated what Jar Jar Abrams did with Star Trek, there was no doubt in my mind he'd do this as well. This is one of those times when I hate being right.
Still have not watched and never will. It's dead to me now.

So you haven't seen Rogue One, but you're going to bitch about it? This comic doesn't even make sense unless you've seen the film. Unless you're talking about VII (which is fair), in which case you're still missing the point. If you are talking about Rogue One, though, please watch it. It's genuinely a masterpiece, and a shining example of how prequels should be made.

Yes, this is a Downer Ending story arc, but a necessary one.Β  Our very first glimpse of The Empire is that humongous cruiser pouncing on the rebel runner.Β  The Empire obliterated Alderaan, a whole planet, all at once; the Empire overran Cloud City.Β  The Empire built an even bigger Death Star, because they could.Β  It's not much of a universe where the bad guys go down like bowling pins.Β  If George Lucas expects us to root for the Separatists / rebels, then the Empire has to be an industrial-grade ass-kicker.Β  Darth Vader is awesome because he mows down twenty-plus guys in a passageway without breaking stride.Β  It's gruesome and horrible and lopsided, and absolutely necessary to make the Empire a credible threat.Β  If you want to see your heroes go unscathed while toppling baddies, try Chuck Norris films: the Gary Stu never loses.Β  Besides, the Empire has to live up to John Williams' Imperial March.

Winjin In reply to oneuglybunny [2017-01-19 15:00:21 +0000 UTC]

To the point!
However, of course it would of have been lovely to see a couple of them later. They are really nice.Β
However, heroes never die, so one can just rewatch the same episode. It's like those direct-to-dvd sequels, half of them makes me wish they were never made.

Loved the movie, but sadly this being a war film it was hard to envision a happier ending. Was surprised they went all the way considering -looks at toys- marketing is more profitable with a living cast, spin-off or not...

Β I thought it was action packed, but...deadly boring besides the smart ass robot played by Wash.Β

Β The leads were bland and the side characters, the interesting ones, weren't really developed. It just went in one ear and out the other; I don't even remember what the hell the leads even said to each other: at all. And this isn't for lack of an incredible memory for cinema, but a lack of memorable cinema. (Barring the badassery that was James Earl Jones; that last scene was worth the price of admission alone!) Otherwise, though, it was a pretty 'Meh!' kind of film. When I watched 'Django Unchained' I could quote, from one sitting, huge seqments of the film. (My favorites being Stephen's intro and the Klansmen bitching about their bag masks---'NO! No one brought an extra bag!') But this? Nuthin'. I didn't hate it, but...if 'Force Awakens' was on TV at the same time as 'Rogue'...I wouldn't even think twice about it changing the channel. At least 'Awakens' was memorable for being bad.Β

Ouch, looks like you're not a fan of either new Star Wars films (which arguably right now are my favorite at the moment). Eh, to each his own, I quite enjoyed the main characters ^^

The-Psychonaut In reply to Mangetsu20 [2017-01-13 10:02:44 +0000 UTC]

What makes me laugh my ass off is when critical shills repeat this market-approved sound bite: 'It's as good as 'Empire'!'Β *snort*No. Because 'Empire' has this scene:Β www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Ykbgv… That scene, in my opinion, countenances what is the core of the 'Star Wars' mythos. It certainly encapsulates what captivates ME to these stories. The Force, which, to me, is about man's ability to transcend the impossible through discipline and sheer force of will.Β

Β Well, that's great you feel that way, but, for me? To borrow from Jeremy Jahns, "It's alright, but you're not going to remember it in t-minus six hours. (Yep. Already forgot.)" I enjoyed the movie okay, but...it left no lasting impression; it was a bleak popcorn flick that I forgot as soon as I hit the bottom of the tub. It was disappointing, needlessly confused and complicated, and...kind of boring: except James Earl Jones. But Jones is always good times; so he don't count.Β

I saw this, and it was mildly spoilerific, but it didn't matter. If anything, knowing what was coming made so much more intense.

I personally feel that Rogue One may not be the swashbuckling romp that A New Hope is, but it's necessary.

If nothing else, it plugs up one of the great 'WTFs' of the original epic.
