Finally something that relates to this catastrophe other than false sympathy. Granted the whole 'pray for Japan' thing is probably better than poking fun at it, but come on, most people don't really care that people are dead and in danger, they just care it's Japan. If it hit some other island like New Zealand none of them would care...

Not heartless, just miss-guided. Think about it, how much art was devoted to Hati on here back then? Virtually none, and the tsunami is hitting a lot of other places right now too, do you see anything for them? Nope.

I can kinda understand why not a LOT of people were affected by the New Zealand tsunami or Haiti was probably because I'm not sure if they've contributed as much to worldwide culture as Japan did.
The Lord of the Rings was filmed on New Zealand, and I do know the Kiwi fruit came from there, but other than that...I don't know.
Call me "ignorant", but Japan is more of a big deal, because they've given a lot to the world.
Though, are you sure it's just "being misguided"? I'm worried that you might really think that humanity at large IS heartless if they seemingly don't care about the other countries in the world.

I do see what you are saying, and Im really glad that the person who responded to this isn't attacking me but actually giving a good stance. Thank you.
On that though I will add that there are area's in China that got part of this tsunami too and it has contributed its fair share of things as well. Yes the damage is not as bad nor media hyped, but then again it is China.
And I won't say you are ignorant, nor am I tying to say that humanity is heartless. I think we just pick where we want to place our concern. And while I agree it is a strong argument in some ways, the fact remains that how much an area has contributed to us should not really affect how much we care about a place. That is somewhat selfish. Weither the area has given us something or not the fact remains that anywhere that tsunami and earthquake has hit it has caused death and damage. If we are going to care about others like this we should at least be more equal.
That and I would be willing to bet anything that if this had happened to somewhere like england, another small island that has contributed a lot, there would be more here than with Haiti (still supporting your stance) but there would not be near as much because it is not as 'popular'. And that is what I am trying to get at. It is only the area's popularity that is getting this much attention not the fact that everyone who posts these are really concerned about the people in danger.
So call me heartless or say that I see things that way but the fact remains is that more than half the people who post stuff like the prayer art only care that it is Japan itself and not that a natural disaster has occurred that has placed a country and it's people in a dangerous area because of a tragic event.
I could also go into more of this in other forms but I doubt either of us want to start a major flaming war...
