You can have less of something if it is a single thing:
less sugar, less hair, less time.
You can only have fewer items of a plural something:
fewer men, fewer items, fewer shoes.

Being a Cashier, I know how this feels. Believe me, my inner Dragon Lady threatend to come out MANY MANY Times when working the 20-items or less register. XD I just wish I could get away with this.

lol! Sadly I know why you can't do that:
They have a timescale in which they have to do everything. Some places are anal, so when you work for the anal ones, you get scared for your job. Gladly there aren't a lot of places that ARE anal, but I feel for them none-the-less.

Oh-My-God...I Love *this*! I mean, I should find it horrifying that a female so gorgeous and cute went all "Hulk from Hell" on the guy, but the moment is just so Perfect! I used to work at Ralphs back in the day, I had *this exact* problem at least twenty times a day.
