As a wise man once said, it's funny because it's true. I've played Portal 8 times to date, and every single time I've found something new. Now THAT is how you tell a great game.

Nice!
I loved the double-meaning in panel 6.
Oh, and remember: Keep on trying 'til you run out of cake!

'The cake', as mentioned in Portal, is a literal metaphor for a good mainstream game. It is also a literal metaphor that was disproven and destroyed by the Orange Box.
All copies of Halo/Halo 2/Halo 3 must be burned and replaced by copies of the Orange Box.

But what about those of us who love both the Orange Box.. And all three Halo games? :B

combine the two and make a very weird game that involves master chief, the portal gun, the covanent being over run by GLaDOS, and it ends with cake.

Yeah, it is kinda short, I guess... I dunno, between the insane advanced chambers, the level maker (and community mapmaking sites) for PC, and the promise of a sequel someday to tie the backstory into the Half-Life games, the short length is excusable in my opinion. Plus you can go back and play it again with developers' commentary turned on and hear about the 3D rendering difficulties, level designs made to teach players to look up, and even the opinion of GLaDOS' voice actor.
And remember Portal: The Flash Version? Based on the trailer, yet made it out before the original? There is a map pack available that contains all the puzzles from that, plus some extras. It's pretty long, maybe as long as Valve's levels!

You know, when I burnt the cube, I couldn't give a crap....don't look at me like that, I killed it quick.
You lot spent hours prolonging the inevitable!

According to the developer's commentary, the designers made the Companion Cube special because when it was treated as a normal cube, the early game testers left it behind after climbing the stairs at the start of the level. Making odd comments about protecting the cube reminded players that they were supposed to carry it everywhere to beat the level. Adding the incinerator at the end was done to finally get the players to STOP carrying around the cube, and also for dramatic effect (because it teaches you how the incinerator works so you can use it in the boss stage).
The odd hype surrounding the cube is partially because the cube is cute, but mostly I think it's an inside joke that ripened a little bit. I doubt most people really spent that long anguishing over the cube, but GLaDOS tells you about it so often that it was funny for a while to pretend you took it more seriously than that.

lmao, i finished it a couple of times.. but the first time, i seriously thought the whole game was just practice to the real thing.. turns out the practice was the whole complete thing D:

In the commentary mode, the developers talk about how they wanted players to ease into the game, so that every level feels like practice for the next one. The real challenge starts around level 13, when most of the items have been introduced, and don't forget that the lengthy Behind The Scenes level takes off the training wheels on most puzzles.

I cheated and saw videos on Youtube. So SPOILER ALERT YOU FOOL.
I can safely say, though, that the scariest noise I've ever heard in a video game was right after the Morality Core gets incinerated. GlaDos is screaming mad, calling you and your face an idiot, and then all of a sudden, it stops.
And then GlaDoS chuckles. Doesn't laugh maniacally, like a lesser rampant AI would, it chuckles.
And then it floods the room your in with deadly neurotoxin, just because it can. Now.

Am I the only person who didn't give a flying f**k about the companion cube? In truth, I was GLAD when the time came to incinerate it.
I played Portal on my housemate's PC, and after beating the boss and getting outside I though to myself 'right, now the real game begins' and was thoroughly disappointed - I thought it had all just been a tutorial.
While this comment makes it sound like I didn't like the game, I did. I loved it. And this strip was great too.

-holds up Portal-
The game: "Speedy thing goes in, speedy thing goes out"
Me: MAKE... IT... STOP... -pulls-...-out-...-barf-...-bag-... -faceplants- I'm ok! -gets faced by a cube and turret- ... -wakes up at start of level again- ... Excuse me while I shove the gun up my nose, and then shoot randomly about until I stay dead...
