Description I don't think the people conducting these attacks quite understand: on an individual level, for those directly caught up in the event, terrorism is as harrowing and tragic an experience as any other act of aggression, but collectively, no one here gives a sh*t. Why? Because Europe was the birthplace of Industrial Warfare. Random killings don’t achieve anything. Small minded fools with delusions of grandeur who think killing a few civilians and then dying themselves will somehow benefit their cause are just seen as an irritation.
Take the 2005 bombings in London, for example. More people were pissed off because the Tube was shut down rather than because an act of terror had just happened in the capital.
Picking up a gun and shooting lots of unarmed people before you yourself are taken down doesn't make you special. Anyone can do it and at the end of it, you’re dead, so the problem has essentially solved itself. The infrastructure you’re blaming for all the evils in the world is still fully functional because it’s never military or industrial targets that are attacked. It’s not “warfare”, it’s just random violence, and that’s easy for a nation to shrug off.

what? it wasn't that bad of insult, in fact I would say its one of the mildest out there

TheHomicidalRedHead In reply to comelookatmystuff [2015-11-15 17:47:17 +0000 UTC]

Mild or harsh, it doesn't matter, because there was no need for that in the first place. Correcting someone, followed by an insult, is not how anyone should go about doing things. It's wrong and it can be harmful. Good day to you.

It's not even the deaths that trouble me most. Not to diminish the suffering of the families affected, of course.
What really gets me is how a person can have their mind so atrociously twisted to act in such cowardice & malice for malice's sake. It's a grim reminder of the worst aspects of human nature.

Not so slowly if you look at actuarial tables and statistics.  It is far less likely that someone would die of human violence today vs a century or two ago.  Even with both world wars the last century was almost certainly the most peaceful in terms of violent deaths than any previous.  Hold on to hope for it is there!

Statistically, oborotyenvpup is correct. Steven Pinker did an excellent statistical analysis of violence in "The Better Angels". Over time, the trends for violence are consistently downward.

It's because ISIS is a group of extremists that even Al-Quaida doesn't associate with.
They're delusional fanatics who've pissed off more people than they should have. They want to act big, try to get people to fear them,
but they're no more than as you depicted- fleas.

My thoughts:
These Muslim terrorists are just making it harder for their fellow Muslims to be accepted in western society.
How is killing civilians creating an Islamic utopia?
Thank god or whoever is in charge that these terrorists are attacking the symbols of western society and not anything important.

Tribersman-FR In reply to randomeye713 [2015-11-14 22:33:27 +0000 UTC]

just saying...
- "a muslim" is nothing close of a defined things, Daesh have their own idea of what a muslim is, "muslim" have their own idea of what a muslim is and an atheist would say you can be and stop being a muslim in as long as it take to formulate it vocally to someone else.
- thanking god for terrorists attacking symbols (and persons) and saying these things aren't important, convey a very mixed message. It sound like as if you considered anything but "fellow muslim" to be not as important and not worth caring as human life.

You should be more careful with your wording

"It’s not “warfare”, it’s just random violence, and that’s easy for a nation to shrug off" ... or it in fact, strengthens the military and industrial bent of the nation you've irritated.

One of these days there's gonna be something big and the way things are going, I wouldn't be surprised if either:

1: The whole world is going to turn against Islam and many other muslims who just want to abide by their daily businesses are gonna be on the firing line unless they discard Islam altogether.

2: World War 3 occurs between the US and Russia (If you know your history the US have always been itching for a fight against Russia for a pretty long time, the closest examples being Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Syria, Libya, practically nearly any country that has reasonable ties with Russia really... not only that but when Russia entered the fray in Syria the US got pretty pissed off because the Russians have taken their place in the spotlight. However the Russians are doing the right thing in the case with Syria's civil war; taking out any and every rebel and terrorist group in the region whereas America is really picky about who to blow up at this moment.

If America had been struck on its home soil during either the First or Second World Wars, then they wouldn't be half as arrogant as they currently are now!!)

3: Both of the above options would occur. (Wouldn't be surprised if Option No.3 were to take place anyways...)

Uhm, are you forgetting Pearl Harbor?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

eiram2006 In reply to Nekio15 [2015-11-14 19:09:45 +0000 UTC]

Yes, the US was attacked once. ONCE, out of two world wars. Look up pictures of Europe after either war, and you will see how being attacked once is absolutely nothing in comparison. We American civilians have not seen war in our cities and towns since the Civil War. Because the US truly does GO to war, we take it to our enemies and fight in their cities and towns, we kill their civilians and call them collateral damage.

Confused-Blue-Dragon In reply to eiram2006 [2015-11-16 14:57:37 +0000 UTC]

Alright, let me clear this one up:

Pearl Harbour is in Hawaii (As everybody obviously knows) and Hawaii itself is technically one of America's many foreign territories, NOT the actual mainland itself as I was actually speaking about in my earlier comment.

Had the Japanese decided to hit America on its home soil (Somewhere like San Francisco or Los Angeles etc) rather than Hawaii, then the course of history would be somewhat altered.

Secondly, out of all of the world's conflicts - both minor and major - a rough estimate of between 60-75% were caused by religion itself.

Either an American Pit Bull Terrier.  Tenacious, Derpy, and always willing to defend what's theirs.
Or a Golden Retriever. Because, you know, popular dog breeds.
