I'm more a fan of David Suchet as Poirot, but I have to admit that Kenneth Branagh didn't do a bad job of it. The movie worked quite well, and really the only thing that spoiled it, was knowing the end beforehand. And I say this as someone that have been rewatching David Suchet's version for years on years, because I like them so much.

Branagh looked like he should be selling fried chicken.
Love his acting and love Christie's Poirot, but...

Can't get past the stache. Poirot wouldn't have a moustache like that, regardless of what Hollywood thinks. Feel bad, as I am letting my prejudices prevent me from enjoying the other very-Poirot points. Just like I couldn't stand that movie. So many issues beyond the stache too.

Having seen this in theaters, and having been watching Agatha Christie's Poirot featuring David Suchet on Netflix until they decided to remove it some time before the trailer for this film came out (the monsters), I found myself enjoying the film, but thinking I should have simply seen it during the matinee or waiting until now that it's out on bluray to rent it or see it when it comes on Netflix. He had an interesting portrayal of Poirot, but I saw glaring problems that refused to go away. I greatly disliked how it was decided to make it filled with more action, to try and make it more invigorating and modern, changing Poirot from the subtle thinker putting his "little grey cells" to work and showing his extensive knowledge of people, to someone who is no stranger to chasing and brawling with the criminals he faces, even at his older age. It seemed like an attempt to try and make the character appealing to a crowd that needs things to always be exciting or exploding because an eccentric yet humble little man who solves crimes with psychology and talking to people is too boring for them.
And one part that made me wish they had paid attention to the book was when the train got stuck in the snow and how they got the scene backwards, trapping the train after the intruder into the murdered man's room spoke French to the conductor for Poirot's benefit. It was a glaring mistake in the murder plan, an action that was done for Poirot's benefit because the train got stuck in the snow which required the change in the plan. Not an act for his benefit for no reason except that he was there and the train getting stuck just happened to be bad luck that occurred afterwards.

I enjoy this version of Poirot for making this more personal for him, and going through a character arc in part of it.

I just found out who this character is tonight, surprised it took me this long to watch the remake.

Yes, but Poirot is portrayed as having OCD.
He can't eat the eggs if they are of different sizes, he clothing must be immaculately clean and sharp, he keeps his bank account at four hundred and forty four Pounds, four Shillings and four Pence (£444 4S 4D old GBP), etc.
But this is part of the character and he would not be Poirot without it.

I am sorry, but Sir Peter Ustinov is clearly the superior Poirot.

First thought to the trailer of this movie: "Oh, Johnny Depp is playing Poirot".... Then found out he did not play Poirot... He had the right moustache for it, though...
Too used to the Poirot Series and that moustache to really actually appreciating this moustache. It's a too big moustache for Poirot to my taste...
But love your artwork though

Non. Non non.
For me it will always be David Suchet, followed by Albert Finney in the 1974 movie. Branagh's version is a pale shadow... and I'm a fan of Branagh

I've only seen David Suchet as Poirot in the serie, but i gotta say he plays that role well, as far as i've seen.

From what I heard, Agatha Christie actually hated the character and having to keep writing the stories, but she did it because he brought in the money...very ironic when you think about it. I leave you this link with some other inventors who also hated their own creations.

Actually read that was a falsehood about Agatha, that she loved him and defended the character devotedly, becoming utterly disgusted at what she found to be horrid portrayals of him on film to the point she would only allow Poirot to be performed on the radio.

Better film than I thought it would be despite the utter pretentiousness of the production design crew....

Did you see the movie? If so, what did you think of it. I definitely want to see it, but I still need to see Thor and Justice League when it comes out.

A good caricature of Sir Branagh, but his portrayal of Hercule Poirot errs terribly; Poirot would NEVER admit publicly to have graying or gray hair. Anyone who has read Agatha Christie's novels knows that Poirot was a vain genius of a detective; he always had jet black hair (even as a toupee). And Branagh's mustache is questionable, too; Poirot was Belgian, not Scottish. (The egg measurements? Exactly in Poirot's character.)

Pronounced Pwaroe or Puarow. I saw this show some time ago. I always wondered why some of the shows had a foggy haze look to the episodes. Not the only show that I saw this with even though in America TV shows from the same year were more clear. My guess was the technology, or a dirty lens.
