Not quite.
It's worth putting off just for the horrified expressions everyone makes when they find out.

I hate owning a cell phone, but I am forced to have it. Β When I lost it, I was so happy and felt a weight lift off my shoulders. Β

Sure, though obviously we'll have to communicate amongst ourselves via smoke signals, semaphore and carrier pigeons.

Lol I try very hard to avoid using my phone unless I'm expecting a call/text (something important)

As a former retail cashier THAT PISSED ME OFF SO MUCH. Worse is when you're the one buying things and the cashier is on their phone.

I have two strategies for that
1) Don't say a single word until they stop using their phone.
2) Talk a lot. A LOT. "Hello sir. Would you like a bag, sir? Of course, sir, would that be 10s or 20s? Kingsize or superkings? Normal or smooth? 2 lucky dips for tonight? Do you want them on seperate tickets or together, sir? Okay, that comes to fifteen pounds and eighty three pence. Thank you, sir, here's your change, one, two, three, four pounds and ten, fifteen, seventeen pence. Thank you, sir. Would you like a bag for those? No? Okay, have a good day, sir! Bye now!"
It's quite cathartic, especially when they're struggling to try to talk and focus on what you're asking them at the same time. If they complain, what? I'm just being friendly. I'm doing good customer service here >83

me too, or even better ---> when they are talking on a bluetooth and you don't see it!
I actually had this happen once (paraphrased of course) =
*customer walks up*
me "hi how are u"
customer "hey, how's it going?"
o_0 me "I'm good, (more pointless drivel)..."
at which point the customer points at their ear to let me know they we NOT talking to me, but had just started a phone conversation as they walked up to the register. The customer was a woman and her hair covered the bluetooth.
fail

As a cashier I feel I must let it be known that the customers should feel far less annoyed when we answer our phones instead of letting management ring and ring and ring for the next four people in line before deciding to hang up for two minutes and call again. Because managers don't cross the store for anyone, lol.

There is a £60 fine and 3 points on your driving licence if you get caught driving while texting. www.askthe.police.uk/content/Q⦠Hope this helps.

It doesn't matter in the US.Β Β I've seen more people texting while driving now that it's banned, than I ever did before the ban.Β Β You can't ban stupid.Β It just wastes the police time, and people get better at texting so that it's not seen.

Arizona is one of the hard-right states filled with blue-hair octogenarian retirees who hate any form of government.
Also, the image in my head of hordes of people swerving around and flying off into the Grand Canyon is hilarious, thank you for that.

As an Arizonan... I can't disagree with that description of the state. They also continue voting Arpaio into office, a county Sheriff with such a reputation he's actually short circuited attempts to having criminals extradited back to the US (Ireland refused to extradite an accused child molester in part because the crimes took place in Maricopa County and they couldn't get a promise that the man would never be placed under Arpaio's jurisdiction; in another case grandparents who kidnapped their grandchildren were extradited only after the US Justice Department agreed to have the trial and any jail time moved outside of Maricopa County). His department ignored at least two years of sex crime reports including some against minors, while reporting at least some of them to the FBI crime statistics office as solved. But hey, he makes life rough for people with brown skin so all's okay... Pardon me I need to go throw up now.
Back on texting and driving, I've often said there is little wrong with traffic that couldn't be fixed by removing half the cars from the road. Let's be merciful enough to take away their drivers licenses and put them on public transit for a few years (oh, wait, our transit system SUCKS with complete capitals, so much for mercy but it's still slightly better than dying in a wreck).
(and now I'll stop before I rant some more about Arizona politics)

In fairness the Arpaio stuff is restricted to Maricopa County (the region around the capital). The Grand Canyon, Meteor Crater, Sedona, and Kitt Peak (to quote Wikipedia, "With 24 optical and two radio telescopes, it is the largest, most diverse gathering of astronomical instruments in the world.") are all outside Maricopa County.
Other than extreme heat the weather is decent. And heat is about all you have to worry about weather/nature-wise in the center of the state; no flooding if you're sensible about where you live, no hurricanes, no tornadoes to speak of (someone spotting so much as a half formed funnel cloud is big news), so much as 2.0 quake that no one feels anywhere in the state will probably be on the news for a week, and a half inch of rain is a sign that monsoon season is upon us (yeah, really, turns out meteorologically you can actually have a monsoon season that gets rainfall measured in a low single digits). So yeah there is heat, black widow spiders, and politics. Air conditioning deals with one, and another you can handle with sprays. But yeah, the politics does its best to try and make up for all the good points.
