i remember these guys. they remind me of these carnival marionettes that were fuzzy and boneless like them.
i remember that at carnivals they would sell these string puppets/marionettes that had two legs, a long neck, and a featureless head. those things gave me nightmares.

And to think I lived in dread of the flying severed lizard head god and his assistant the zombie scottie terrier as a child. The Yip Yips are true monsters. I had a nightmare about these guys when I was about 3 or 4. I still remember it perfectly. Apparently, in the dream I had the ability to fly, but every time I tried to land, one of those bug-eyed hellspawn would charge me from behind a mailbox or something, yipping. Traumatizing as hell.

I truly miss Jim Henson. He had such a great ability educate, entertain... and scare the living hell out of children all over the world. I recall a version of Cookie Monster that had sharp teeth.

I adored these as a kid!! I will still sometimes search them out on the internet just to give myself the giggles. I saw them as fundamentally childlike and terrified of everything... the lower lip trick was almost more like a blankets-over-the-head trick to me.

I remember Jason Steele (The guy who did the Charlie the Unicorn series) talked on a podcast about how when he was a young boy, he would have night-terrors where the Yip-Yips would prance around his room, scaring the piss out of him until his mom came in, and when she told him it was just a nightmare and left the room, the Yip-Yips would return and be super-duper quiet while they prances around the room. ^.^
