I think we should talk about national identity in some countries, not about ethnic group. Good work, anyway!

> San Marino: Sammarinese
> Lichtenstein: Germans
that doesn’t make a lot of sense…

That surprises me that a German has any sort of doubts on this but obviously what they’re talking about in the Wikipedia page is the Sammarinese dialect (which is part of the wider Romagnolo dialect region). If so Lichtenstein would also speak its own dialect, and in fact Schwyzerdütsch is far more used at an official level in those regions than the local dialect in San Marino, so if any that would be the opposite

How did you construct the percentage in France?
Cause i believe it's a bit unfair to include occitans and not low germans when them too have greatly lost their language bellow 1 million speakers.
If Belgium get a second number, Switzerland should too : the percentage of Swiss nationals in Switzerland which is (1-2053589/8482000)*100 = 75.8% (sources : www.sem.admin.ch/dam/data/sem/…
www.bfs.admin.ch/bfs/de/home/s… )
Also the number of swiss german is 62.8% : www.bfs.admin.ch/bfs/de/home/s…

Hi, according to my sources France have 13 Million people of "foreign-background" and 8 Million people of national minorities . I have Not added Low German people because i believe they dont identify as an own ethnic groups. The Idea with Switzerland is good, i will add this later when im on my Computer

13'000'000 seems fair.
It's tricky for the occitans and bretons as well. Depending how you count, there are 100'000 to 12'000'000 Occitans and 200'000 to 7'000'000 Bretons.
It depends if you consider assimilated Bretons and Occitans as french or not. This is not easy to answer, and your 8'000'000 numbers feel then a bit arbitrary.
If you take the lowest estimate for the speakers of minority language, the number would so be as down as something like 1,5 million people. On the other hand if you take the large definition then you obtain more than 20'000'000 people.

I don't know if it's right to consider (only) the Venetians as a separate ethnic group, we are no more different than other regional ethnic groups.

Venice may leave, won't it?
I think they only picked the ones with self-determined things.

I don't think so, we aren't as extreme as Catalans (for example), we mainly complain about the government.
In Italy we have many "self-determined things", in that case Italy should be full of names .

Well I've heard the Venetian people that would do that sort of thing were like "hey we want to go but now's not a good time" in response to Catalonia.

Ok, Wikipedia means they have a own language

R-R-Eco In reply to JonasGraf [2018-05-22 19:47:00 +0000 UTC]
Of course, but have their own language also Sicilians, Ligurians, Lombards, etc.
You can consider the Venetians as a separate ethnic group, but in that case you should also consider other minorities (at least those in the north).

R-R-Eco In reply to JonasGraf [2018-05-22 22:43:23 +0000 UTC]
There are at least a million of: Piedmontese, Lombard, Ligurian, Emilian, Neapolitan, Sicilian. But the numbers vary depending on the criteria you use (for example, not everyone speaks a regional language).
In my opinion, you should count in the Italians the inhabitants of all the romanze areas of the peninsula (maybe except Sardinian, Rhaeto-Romance, French/Occitan).

Basically the Occitan valleys in Piedmont are part of ethnic piedmont under any point of view apart maybe the linguistic one (even if at the moment this is also changing).
I think that R-R-Eco is right when he says that all romance people in Italy are basically Italian (apart IN PART Dolomitic Ladins and Sardinians).

Nice
I enjoy looking at this map very much, and I like how you also put the white names for significant minorities ^^
About Belgium, which do you consider to be more correct, 75% Belgians or 60% Dutch? For me, it's Dutch.

JonasGraf In reply to Tikiyachod [2018-05-22 18:04:59 +0000 UTC]
"Belgians" are not an ethnicity ^^ its a Nationality,
according to ethnicity the majority of the Country are Dutchmen called "Flames" who are 60% of the country,
75% Belgian means that, 75% of the country identify as belgian too
