Description Big One is the locomotive featured in the anime Galaxy Railways, this is the engine before it was rebuilt when Wataru Yuuki totalled it to destroy a huge enemy ship.

I just took a streenshot in Shape Viewer of the NALW Big Boy and pasted it on a space background then added the effects.

I love that they used the Big Boy in Galaxy Railways (Hated the Season 2 version though)...but there should have been other classic Steam loco's in it too. It would have ben awesome if they threw in a British Class A3 locomotive or a U.S. GS-4 locomotive

Me and a friend ran an IM-based Galaxy Railways RPG years ago, he had the Big One and I had the Reading #2102 4-8-4. [link]

T'was fun.

Sorry. I was just so excited that I thought you didn't know.. So. But I like Galaxy railways. My favorite I'd the Big One itself.

Hey! Asperger's Syndrome patients may not be the smartest kids on the block socially, but as for book sense, they're top notch.

Ever hear of Archimedes? You know, the FATHER OF MODERN INVENTION?

How about Aristotle? "I think, therefore I am"?

Those are now known to have had Asperger's Syndrome, and that's what made them great!

Issac Newton; Albert Einstein, every great scientist, inventor, philosopher, and mathematics genius ever known?

The people who took us out of the dark ages and into the light?

They had one thing in common: Asperger's.

So when you insult Asperger's Syndrome patients, you insult those people I've mentioned, and many more.

Including yours truly.

Now; I've got a group started called #galaxyrailways and I want you to be a part of it.

However; if you insult me again, or if you insult any group members; you're going to be kicked.

This is your one and only warning.

I don't care about your group, I don't wanna be part of your group, and I'm not intimidated by your tumblr type of threat. Ooooh I'll be blocked from a group, so scared!

I got diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome and ADHD when I was 6 years old, but unlike you I don't get butthurt if people give me shit about it, nor do I see anything ÜBERSPESHUL about me having it. And I certainly DO NOT go out of my way to be offended when someone says shit about my diagnose! You, on the other hand, obviously never learned to understand sarcasm, but then again you have Aspergers so how could you interpret something that isn't literal? I bet your superior Aspie intellect also gave you the genius idea of commenting on something I said FOUR FUCKING YEARS AGO. I'm sure Einstein is realy proud of you for that, that showed that pesky Swede what happens when he offends someone, way to go!

So in the words of the great George Carlin: "Go fuck yourself."

Ah; George Carlin.

Narrated Season 2 (or was it 3?) of Thomas and Friends (AKA Shining Time Station).

I was born during the intro of an episode of Shining Time Station, Thomas's gaze being the first thing I saw.

That ignited a life-long passion for trains that continues to this day.

More to the point; Jonatan, I had no idea you were an Aspergian like myself.

And indeed; sarcasm slips right by me.

Online at least; for text doesn't convey sarcasm as well as voices.

About the date you posted said comment: I never looked at the date, and I frequently don't with posts.

So I'm sorry I offended you.

Is there any way I can do some damage control and make it up to you?

Niiiiiiiiiice. There's actually a Big Boy at the Museum of Transportation in Missouri, which, being a huge Galaxy Railways fan, went to go see when my family visited my grandparents there. c: It was reaaaaaaally cool to check it out in person. (It was actually even on display when I went there, and you could go inside. Sooooo cool.)

My Dad is a big train fan and he totally disagrees with GR and how the trains fly around in space, seemingly on nothing. :/

And on reading your comments, what's a Walschaert's valve gear?

Jonatan In reply to Schwanheld [2009-08-22 18:45:37 +0000 UTC]

Cool that you got to see a BB in person, it's the biggest articulated steam loco out there but not the heaviest and most powerful, other locos beat it in those respects.

Walschaerts valvegear = [link]

Big Boy #4018 currently resides on static display at the Museum of the American Railroad out in Frisco, TX. Its' former location is at Fair Park in Dallas, TX, where I saw it in person and heard its' tale.

A tale remarkably similar to the un-rebuilt Big One. Similar in that it too; was sacrificed. It was sacrificed, albeit unintentionally, by Union Pacific during its' attempt to restore it. From #4018's sacrifice; he UP Steam Program learned how to convert a big articulated locomotive like this one to oil-fired.

And in recent years; they practiced by firing the Big Boys' smaller cousin, Challenger #3985.

Now they're trying again with Big Boy #4014.

I wish them luck.

Never heard of "Night on the Galactic Railroad" but I have heard of GE999. Galaxy Railways is actually a spinoff of GE 3-9.

Speaking of 3-9; there's a special intro for it on YouTube with a real C-52 steamer, repainted as GE 999. It runs into a tunnel; followed by the standard animation with the track switch and the easy-train route out of earth's gravity well.

That, would've been awesome. Only problem is that, well steam power and space doesn't work so good. :/

Atticus-W [2007-08-05 00:48:39 +0000 UTC]

Haha, that's the very one! I searched YouTube for clips from that show when I saw this pic the first time. (I found out the animators couldn't figure out how a Walschaert's valve gear worked!)

Anyway, that's a great pic-- the steam and smoke look great. The world needs a few of those things in real-life.
