Eshrigel is a character from Zak Smith's RPG campaign manual "Vornheim: The Complete City Kit". She is an aristocratic schemer and reputed to be ancient. For some reason (be it my love for Ray Harryhausen's Medusa or I read some Dungeon Master's campaign blog), I envisioned her similar to French aristocracy of the 1700s with a bouffant hairdo of snakes and her dress as shedding skin. I've made many drawings of her for fun.
Regarding Zak Smith's "Vorheim", I would highly suggest it to any fan of D&D or fantasy worldbuilding. His suggestive prose is amazing and haunts the mind without being overwrought or too tawdry... definitely a grimmer take on places like the Underdark and Drow cities but not without a dose of wry wit. It really is an inspiration.
