Way back in the mists of ancient galactic history when the galaxy was young, its civilizations as yet unexpanded to the point they are at today, there was a planet by the name of Uralkah in the Darewei System that was in time to rise to be one of the core worlds which survives to this day, but back then it was a relatively isolated backwater world but its people and specifically its scientific community wanted to expand out to neighboring systems. Subspace had been discovered by them, and they had successfully manufactured subspace capable drive systems for at least a century when plans were put forward to seed subspace itself with navigational beacons.

This was to be the purpose of the MAG-01 hull. Seen here with a drive and reactor module, the hull featured eight launch bays on its underside that could eject a total thirty-two subspace buoys which would anchor in the subspace realm and act as navigational relays for through-passing ships. The MAG-01 had a command section and was manned by six persons, its general mission parameters had it operating for no more than two months at a time both in subspace, and normal space. When the MAG-01 had served the purpose it was designed and built for the Uralkahi found themselves with very expensive hardware that seemingly had no purpose, so the existing craft were retro-fitted to be tugs, and as seen in this instance, some of them were outfitted with subspace antenna arrays which would be used as early warning systems against approaching vessels that projected ahead of them a subspace wavefront that could be detected an hour or so before the actual vessel emerged from subspace.
