Description Computational hardware is common across known space and can be found in various forms and formats. Since the general acceptance of molecular level memory products, the relative size of hardware has diminished and its now possible to get more memory into less space, plus the necessary interfacing hardware, and the physical housings that these devices are mounted within. We see here an example of a commercially available portable data interfacing unit, essentially its like a tablet but with considerably more data processing capability that today's technologies. Designed to be held in one hand while the other can be used to manipulate the screen or the data projected from its holographic emitters which has subtle electromagnetic fields embedded in them so that when a holographic image is touched, the subjects electromagnetic field causes a change in amplitude and the device determines this to be a touch interaction by the user. The holographic projectors (the bumps located around the screen) can create an image with a maximum possible field size of two by one meter in diameter that can be projected out to a distance of half a meter from the device's surface. The surface is in actuality a screen, and covered with a very hard transparent surface lacquer for bump, impact and scratch protection.

This 14'' (35.56cm) high (screen only) device would probably have a total data capacity of 22,600 petabyte's. Activation is as simple as approaching the device and requesting it activate, or for those who have limited vocalization, to press in the activation switch on the top right-hand side of the device casing (and repeating that touch to switch off again). When active, even when the screen or the holomatrix emitters are not displaying anything, a small light is illuminated. When fully charged it can be left on in standby mode for eight weeks, and when used for close to three weeks of continuous usage. It has a optical pickup so that it can be utilized as a two-way communicator. And a microphone (see the lower central part of the front casing) that can present voice or other audio communications, including verbal instructions to the unit, and a speaker to present audio output. The unit can be recharged from a port on the left-hand side, but a typical charging from an approved power source taking just under thirty minutes. The charger being any standard power source with the commonly found and standard DKE interface cable.

The device housing is manufactured in one piece with the components and frame essentially becoming one unit. It is very tough, being able to survive impacts, and if by accident some heavy object is placed on it, the casing can resist up to nine metric ton of weight before fracturing. Additionally they can be immersed in strong acid for up to ten minutes, exposed to depths of six kilometers of water pressure without damage, and can be used in any environment, including under water and in space. The 'grab ring' is designed so that when held the users hand does not slip. This ring also makes it possible to just clip the unit to a belt or pack.
