i thought, from the thumbnail, that these were some beautifully ambiguous things. like mountains. or something.

and then i saw the face above, and the brains below. marvelous. i love the ink washes.

Hey thanks! One day I'd like to do work for gallery shows.

Rob-Cavanna In reply to jonesray [2008-07-07 20:20:42 +0000 UTC]

You will!

Just watch yer ass, cuz galleries sometimes demand absurd commissions.
You may do well to join some artist's group -just for some general backup.

Hey, what do you think of them waterfalls?

That's a good idea! I'll probably check into it later this year once I've got more work/ larger pieces. Thanks!

brilliant drawing-- I love the split up colors and textures so much. what kind of book are you working in? It looks kind of like watercolor paper-- did you get one of the linen sketchbooks from NY central? They're soooo good <3

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

jonesray In reply to jenmundy [2008-07-05 07:41:52 +0000 UTC]

Actually, yes! I picked this book up from NYCentral for about... 17 dollars? it's damn good paper for mixed media stuff. Not so great for pencil though-- erasing just eats the paper. This book is kind of a side project from my other book project... this is a "get-up-and-draw" sort of book. For the rest of this month I plan to do a page or something simple a day-- just to keep working on something. In the end I may just combine the digital(other book) and good stuff from the traditional works(sketchbook) into one book.

Flipping hot! This is just beautiful! The kind of work I've never seen pulled off in digital (as a random aside)

Wow, how'd you do that?

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

jonesray In reply to BeautifullyFlawed [2008-07-05 07:37:42 +0000 UTC]

Sketching, ink washes..painting over ink washes, and lots of matte mediums and thin acrylic glazes of color. Gel pen for the brainy-gut parts.

jonesray In reply to BeautifullyFlawed [2008-07-05 14:52:49 +0000 UTC]

Not sure... I just pick up the book whenever I have time and add to it.

I can't go back to stuff when I draw in my multiple sketchbooks, I'm afraid of messing something up.

I'm liking this and the other one in your blog as well The sketchy-ness adds to it I think it would be hard to improve on it even with a computer version etc

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

jonesray In reply to wroth [2008-07-05 07:36:28 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! It was definitely a lot more fun then working on the computer alone for color and texture. Something about traditional mediums is....meditative.
