Once the pencils were done, they were sent to Terry Austin for inking. Originally I wanted to do them myself, but Mr. Austin is considered a legend in the comic book industry (X-Men and stuff) and I wasn't sure when or if I'd ever have a chance to be inked by a guy like that again. Paul was especially receptive towards it, so, why not? I think it came out great.

Terry took the noted X marks on the pencils, filled with blacks where noted, and (I'm guessing from a friend of mine who looked at it when it came into the offices) inked with what's called a nib. Some inkers prefer nibs, some prefer brushes - personally I use Faber Castell art pens (I used Microns for years only to renounce them the minute I touched these things. )

One thing I was really happy with were the moon and clouds I'd drawn out into the background. I feel it really set the mood well. Upon looking at it further, I think the roses came out a bit odd. I probably could have put more variation to them. But I do like how everything came together. Next - the colors.
