I like the atmosphere and the colours which give the whole thing a realistic and not that tacky touch most of digital paintings have. :>

I love the atmosphere, the subtle lights and the dusty air. Keep it up my friend!

Good repoussoir effect can really make an image. Like in this case. The aim of the image is to introduce/describe this exotic city i think, and it really does the trick. Like the opening scence from Disney's Alladin -> you have the dark slums, and then through the townships the entire city is revealed, gleaming and stretching of in the distance.
As you might of guessed i Really like this image.
cheers,
Nick

I love how the colours on the buildings interact with each other. (and those nice brush strokes on the bottom)

Really like the archway framing, looks like a great spot from the intense heat with the cold colours, makes a nice contrast against the earthy backdrop....

I really like that vivid green in the dark archway, unexpected and pleasing to the eye! And wonderful atmosphere.

Brilliant illusion of depth here, tricky when using the impasto artrage brushes as they tend to pop more than other brush strokes. I always like a clever framing device within an image to.

Thanks! Very kind!
Agreed - you have to think about where you're laying down that heavy impasto - same as trad work really! I'm all for introducing variety with framing devices!

Man, I totally love these cityscapes of yours... backgrounds have always been my enemy, so your work is a real motivator for me!
When I first started watching you, I used to think "wow, this looks like a painting straight out of some of my paper and pencil RPG books... and then I had the realization and was glad I didn't comment and make a fool of myself God only knows why I'm telling you about it now!
Happy painting!

To be fair to yourself, there is a lot of that kind of commentary on DA! "You should do this for a living" is probably the one that stings! "Um... I do?" Ha Ha
I love doing scenic stuff. And that is something that has developed over time - I didn't used to, but you find your way to it I think. You just have to keep an open mind and try lots of different solutions to the problem.
Thanks again!

John, it's a delight. Simply a fabulous delight. I'd like to add something more constructive but I really can't.

Thanks Ralph! I had several city scapes to paint for this book, so I had to come up with some different takes on the subject. This one was aimed at making the viewer want to get past that big gate, and I'm hopeful that it worked out ok!
