These "wide-screen" series are very nice - different, interesting. They don't scream out HERE I AM!!! but manage to be good and subtle simultaneously. I like that.

Thanks! I'm not certain of this, but I think the fact these images are quarter pagers really helped push them in a different direction. They're not big fanfare pieces, and that I think frees them up a little to be more about atmosphere than dynamic exposition, if that makes any sense at all? It was a fun format to build compositions within too. You really have scope to move the eye when you have a low, wide format, which perhaps on a more regular portrait format you don't to the same degree.

It immediately brought to mind the scene in Fellowship of the Ring (the book) where the Hobbits rest at a stone pillar in the Barrow Downs and wake up only to get caught by the Barrow Wights There are quite a few differences between the scenes, however, so I was not surprized to see a different tale in the artist's comments

Regardless, it's beautiful and invokes Tolkienesque epicness ^_^
