Hmm...I feel like this wouldn't lose anything if you cut off the bottom fifth. My eye doesn't even go into that part of the photo unless I deliberately force it, it's more drawn to the cliffs and the opposite shore.

Lovely place, reminds me of Scotland.

Thanks for the feedback! You might be rightβ€”I don't think I thought of that because the shoreline between the mountains and the lake is right on the top 1/3rd line. Cutting off the bottom fifth might bring it closer to the center, and I don't know how that would go with the composition. I'll give it a shot. Cheers!

I think the far shoreline should be below the top 1/3rd line, as it's not the subject itself? Dunno, it's just that it feels to me like that bottom fifth doesn't contribute anything to the picture.

I think you're right, the bottom fifth doesn't contribute much. But I think the far shoreline (as a dividing line in the image) should be on a third line. I find that putting lines like that in the center of an image puts me off a little bit. But perhaps taking out the bottom fifth would not move it too far. Again, cheers for the feedback. It is great to get responses like this

Hmm, it might be an aspect ratio thing. I'm really used to taking landscape shots in 16:9 and sticking horizon-ish lines much closer to halfway (e.g. [link] , [link] , [link] and [link] ). I did wonder if I'd have noticed it so much if your photo had an extra 20% or so at the right-hand side...probably not!

I just tried taking out the bottom 1/5th. You're right, I like that better. Cheers
