Description Another daily from Carl's Teamwork Factory. This was totally nostalgia inspired. I had this really cool Space Usagi Yojimbo action figure, that had never actually appeared in the show, so I put him into action with the TMNT against a horde of the Triceratons (another blast from the past, but they were still cool in the TMNT remake).

man, that toy (no offense) is awful looking! I guess kids dig it though.

brush work? I only tried a brush once... tedious work! and s-l-o-w! At least for my single try. I always think "analog" work looks so much better than digital. Something organic about it.

I scanned your gallery after I made my initial comment. I dig what you got going on. Keep it up! (as if you were going to stop and needed my encouragement)

Haha, well, whether or not I need the encouragement, I appreciate the sentiment!

Brushes are great! I find it faster, actually, then pen! It's slower at first, because it's harder to control, but it gets faster as you get more comfortable with it. The line weight variety is great. Sometimes it makes my stuff look too smooth, though, if I want a grittier look.

Yeah... I guess that toy is pretty ugly... man, but it was just awesome when I was a kid. I mean, it was a rabbit, in a space suit, with a detachable cape and removable two-piece helmet. And I loved those garish colours, too.

don't get me wrong. brush work is amazing in the right hands... in others it creates blobs of black! when you can "sketch" with a brush and ink you know you're good.

Agreed. Good brush sketches are wicked!

I have no clue who Carl is. Or the Factory. But I dig what you got here! Very clean lines, solid. Doesn't look digital... this just pen on paper? I'm impressed with you, sir. I have no clue what the toy looks like but I wish Usagi looked different but that's just personal taste. As he is here reminds me of Locutus of Borg.

Thanks, man! I appreciate it! Yeah, the line-work is all brush and ink, maybe with a bit of pen mixed in, but I can't remember. Hah! Yeah, he totally looks borg-ish. Here's a photo of the toy I had as a kid (not my photo):

P.S. Carl's Teamwork Factory was just a random name my friend and I gave to a blog of daily illustrations we were making last summer.
