Personality and background

Haku grew up in feudal Japan as part of a traditional family. His little brother Jiro and him were best friends during their childhood. Adulthood changed them both however, and sent Jiro to a path of crime and Haku to a path of law and honour. This divided them, until their last confrontation that would have cost Jiro his life. Jiro was transformed by a mysterious mountain Esk, unbeknownst to Haku. Meanwhile Haku had lost his arm, and had wandered the mountains where their fight took place, blaming himself for everything. He deeply regretted his actions and where they took him, and it took him to the edge of a mountain cliff. At his lowest point, the mysterious mountain Esk that had transformed his brother, and who had observed him for months after, now took care of Haku as well and turned him into an Esk.

Even as an Esk, Haku is still regretful. He and his brothers haven't been on good terms since, though they know of each other's existence as Esk. Maybe someday Jiro can forgive him. If only Haky could forgive himself.
