I intend to write more for her, including her origin, I just haven't a good window of time to work on it.
TLDR version: Lady Noir's real name is Vera Verani. She was orphaned young and raised by her uncle, a mafia hitman, Sammy "the Tailor" Verani. Growing up with his stories inspired her to get into true crime research and journalism. After college, her uncle died, and left behind a vast log of audio diaries, "confessionals" and written journals. It was a gold mine of material for Vera to use to really jumpstart her career. Unfortunately, while making contacts and running down corroborating sources, someone gave her up to the Family. Under false pretenses, they had her killed.
Vera came to on "Otherside", the Deadlands. There she was charged by Judges of the Dead with returning as a revenant, not for the act of revenge, but instead to save other lives like hers that would be wrongfully taken. Now she fights crime and saves lives, aided by her "ferryman" a skeletal cab driver on the Otherside named Charley that helps her navigate the politics and unwritten laws of the Dead. Liveside, Vera freelances, covering the true crime beat and occasionally publishing under a pseudonym some of the wilder things she learns as "fiction".
