Description JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED
“GALATEA RETURNS”
(working title)

1.  Fade in.  Exterior shot of the WatchTower in orbit above the Earth.

Interior shot.  Long observation room.  No lights.  Horizon of Earth outside.  Sun about to rise.  Lone figure standing in front of the window.  Shayera Hol.

Shayera:  Do you still watch the sunrise?

GL: (OS)  How did you know I was here?

Shayera:  (still looking out the window)  I always know when you’re near.

Green Lantern steps into the light but stays a couple of steps behind Shayera.

GL:  Whenever I get the chance

Shayera:  How often is that?  Don’t tell me Vixen keeps you up late.

Green Lantern looks down at the bag at Shayera’s feet.

GL:  Heading down to the Metro Tower?

Shayera: (smirking at change of subject)  Yeah, I start a five day shift today.

GL:  Why all the overtime?

Shayera:  Just feel the need to keep myself busy.  Besides it’s been awhile since I’ve seen a sunrise under an atmosphere.  (finally looks at him)  And where are you off to?

GL:  Corvino Four.  The governing factions have finally asked for a mediator to help iron out a peace treaty.

Shayera:  That could take awhile.  (faces window again, but looking out of the corner of her eye)  You taking someone with you?

GL:  It’s a solo mission.  It came from OA, not a League assignment.

Green Lantern tries to move Shayera’s bag so he can stand next to her, but has trouble lifting it.

GL:  Whoa!  What have you got in --  (looks at Shayera)  It’s your Thanagarian armor, isn’t it?

Shayera:  (takes the bag and easily swings it behind her shoulder)  And if it is?

GL:  Shayera, we allowed you to wear it for the--

Shayera:  (stern) “Allowed”!?  I don’t remember asking for permission.

GL:  That uniform brings out a lot of bad feelings for a lot of League members--

Shayera:  (angry)  I was a soldier.  This uniform represented everything I believed in--

GL:  You were a spy!

Shayera looks as if she’s been slapped.  Even Green Lantern seems to regret his outburst.  She turns back to the window.

Shayera:  (whisper)  Get out.

GL:  (softly)  Shayera--

Shayera:  Get Out!

Close up of Shayera looking out the window.  Over her shoulder we see Green Lantern walking out of the room.

Next panel.  Same shot.  Green Lantern is gone and Shayera closes her eyes.  We see the sun rising in the reflection of the glass.

Shayera:  (softly)  Damn it.  [translated from Thanagarian]

2.   The Bridge of the WatchTower.  Overhead wide shot.

Mr. Terrific:  (OS -- over PA)  Superman: report to the command deck.

Cut to command deck.  Superman flies up where Mr. Terrific and Green Arrow are waiting.

Superman:  You called, Mr. Terrific?

Green Arrow:  An old “friend” of yours wants to speak with you.

On a communication monitor is Professor Hamilton.

Superman:  (eyes narrow)  He isn’t a friend of mine anymore.

Hamilton:  And I wouldn’t be calling for you, Superman, if--

Superman:  --If all decisions concerning your clone didn’t need my authorization.

Hamilton:  I implore you, Superman.  Let me see her.  I know I can help her.

Superman:  That thing tried to kill Supergirl twice!

Green Arrow:  Not to mention lead an army of Ultimen to destroy the WatchTower and everyone in it.

Hamilton:  Even Prisoners of War deserve some compassion.  Galatea will never get better if she’s kept in a cell of red sun lamps.

Superman:  For your information, professor, we’ve taken her out of the red light months ago.  Even under normal light there has been no change in her condition.  If anything should change,  I’ll let you know.

Superman closes the connection, scowling.

Green Arrow:  You’ll really let him know?

Superman glares at Green Arrow for a moment.  Then turns and walks off the deck

Mr. Terrific:  (lowered voice)  The big guy is a little touchy about this clone.

Green Arrow:  He misses Kara.  It’s been nearly six months since she left.

3.  Medical Bay.

Superman is walking down the corridor.  Stops, and looks to the side.  Through an observation window he sees Galatea.  In a coma.  Superman opens the door and steps inside.

Green Arrow: (OS)  Thought you might stop by today.

Superman sees Green Arrow on the other side of the room, leaning against the wall.

Superman:  What are you doing here?

Green Arrow:  Not the same reason you’re doing here.

Superman:  What’s that supposed to mean?

Green Arrow:  Correct me if I’m wrong, but this clone was in one of our cells for almost half a year, without one visit from you.  Then two weeks after Kara leaves, you have her moved here.  You started taking occasional strolls that brought you down here.  You would look through the glass but never step inside . . . . . . Until today.

Superman:  You’ve been keeping tabs on me?

Green Arrow:  (feigns innocence)  Me?  Heavens no.  I have a life.

Superman:  (lowered voice)  Question.  (to Green Arrow)  And what is Question’s theory about this?

Green Arrow:  Actually, it’s mine.  But almost anyone can tell you what you’re doing.

Superman:  And what am I doing?

Green Arrow:  Transference, pal.  You miss Kara and she’s (indicates Galatea) the closest thing you have of her.  Look at her.  Her hair has grown as long as Kara’s was.  And when she’s asleep like that . . . . You really can’t tell the difference.

Superman:  (raised voice)  She is nothing like Kara!

Green Arrow:  I know that.  But do you?

This seems to strike Superman speechless.  But before he can respond . . . .

Galatea:  (OS) Clark?

Shocked, Superman and Green Arrow look towards the bed and see--

Galatea sitting up.  Rubbing sleep from her eye.

Galatea:  What’s with all the yelling, Clark?

Off Superman’s and Green Arrow’s expressions, we cut to--

Black.  Roll opening credits.  JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED

ACT II.

1.  Galatea is still sitting in bed.  She looks at her surroundings.

Galatea:  Uh, Clark, Ollie?  What am I doing in sick bay?

Superman:  How did you know . . . . . ? (exchanges a look with Green Arrow)

Green Arrow:  Kara?

Galatea:  Ollie.

Superman:  Supergirl?

Galatea:  (frowns) Superman.  (Superman and Green Arrow exchange another look)  Well, now that we have the introductions out of the way, maybe someone can tell me what happened.

Green Arrow:  We were kinda hoping you could tell us.

Galatea:  How should I know?  One minute I’m in the training room with you and Lantern . . .and the next thing I know, I’m waking up to find--  (looks down at herself and notices her chest) --to find . . . . (lifts the neckline of gown and looks inside.    She quickly crosses her arms over her chest, eyes wide)  Where did those come from?

Green Arrow is tilting the brim of his hat over his face and Superman is coughing  into his fist, slightly embarrassed.  Galatea suddenly leaps from the bed, startling them.  Green Arrow reaching for an arrow.  But they see that Galatea is only looking at herself in the mirror.

Superman steps closer to her as Galatea is looking at her face, a hand on her cheek.  As Superman steps up beside her she raises her hand leveled with the top of her head.  She slides her hand through the air towards Superman where it is the same height as his chin.

Galatea:  Usually, when I stand this close to you I have to tilt my head back to look you in the eye.  Why don’t I have to now?  (looks at the mirror again)  Clark, what’s happened to me?

Superman:  (hesitant)  It’s very complicated.  You’re not really--

Question:  (OS)  You’re from the future.

Everyone turns to see the Question standing by the open door.

Superman:  Question, I don’t think this is a good i--

Question:  On the contrary.  What we say next is very crucial.

Off Superman’s serious expression we fade to . . . . .

2.  Short time later.

Galatea is sitting in bed again.  Superman and Green Arrow standing and Question sitting backwards on a chair around the foot of her bed.  There is a look of disbelief on Galatea’s face.

Galatea:  So I decided to stay in the future and Green Arrow and Lantern returned without me.

Question:  That’s correct.  However a few months ago, you did return.  Looking as you do now.  I would say aged about 5 years.  And you were completely comatose.  You have been here ever since.

Galatea:  But then why don’t I remember anything about my time in the future?  I mean amnesia I can buy, but why only those years I spent in the future?

Question:  (more to himself)  That is indeed the question.

Galatea:  What do you mean?

Question: (snaps out of his thoughts)  It is possible that in order to preserve the timeline that you had your own memories of the future removed before journeying back to the past.

Green Arrow:  You mean the present.

Question:  Not to her.

Green Arrow:  Yes, to her.  She is of this time.

Question glowers under his blank face.

Black Canary enters the room.  Holding a blue and red bundle of cloth in her hands.

Black Canary:  I went to Kara’s old quarters and found a spare uniform.  I had the machine make the alterations you asked for,  Supermy god.

Galatea had stood up and Black Canary is now looking up at her, wide-eyed expression on her face.

Green Arrow: (clears his throat behind her)  Ahem, Dinah . . .

Black Canary:  . . . .my god, it’s so good to see you finally on you’re feet again, Kara!

Black Canary gives Galatea a hug.  Unsure, Galatea returns it.

Galatea:  It’s good to see you again, too?  (confused)  Though from my point of view I just saw you yesterday.  On my birthday.  But I guess that happened awhile back, too.

Black Canary:  And I had one of your uniforms altered for your new measurements.

Galatea:  Thanks.  But . . . . . Uh, where’s the uniform I came back from the future in?

Black Canary looks over her shoulder giving the men a “why didn’t you think of that?” look.

Galatea:  Don’t tell me I came back naked like in those old time travel movies!?  (buries her face in her uniform)  Now I have to kill everyone who was there!

Everyone has a shocked expression.  Black Canary takes a step away from her.  Question rises from his chair.  Galatea looks puzzled by their reaction.

Galatea:  Guys, I was only joking.  Lighten up.

Green Arrow:  Fellas,  why don’t we give the ladies the room?

Outside in the corridor.  The door slides closed and--

Superman:  Question, you are so full of --

Green Arrow:  Shhhh.  The kid still has super hearing, right?

Question:  (tapping the window)  Sound proof.  Even for those with more sensitive ears.

They watch Black Canary as she hits a switch which clouds out the window.

Green Arrow:  Is Dinah gonna be safe in there with her?

Superman:  Don’t worry.  I can see everything that happens in there.

Green Arrow:  You can---  C’mon, man!  She may be a clone, but it’s still a clone of your cousin--!

Superman:  Give me some credit for discretion, Arrow!  I’m looking at their skeletons.

Green Arrow:  (a beat)  I don’t know if that’s better or worse.

Superman:  So what game are you playing here, Question?  What was all that nonsense about her returning from the future?

Question:  It’s as I suspected.  This Galatea and Supergirl have a psychic connection.

Green Arrow:  Kara only had a few dreams about this clone.

Question:  Correction.  Her dreams were Galatea’s memories.  And the connection was not one-way.  Galatea was also experiencing some of Supergirl’s feelings and conscience.

Green Arrow:  Which is why she wanted to kill Kara so badly.   So she can continue to kill without remorse.

Question:  But when she failed and it looked like she went up with Nuvo*Gen, two years ago, I’d say Hamilton and Cadmus went to extra lengths to make sure their connection was blocked.  To keep Galatea from going rogue again.

Superman:  It didn’t work.   From what Waller told Batman, Galatea disregarded orders to stop the attack on the WatchTower.  But that still doesn’t explain why she thinks she’s Kara now.

Green Arrow:  She could be faking.

Question:  I doubt that.  Supergirl could see Galatea’s memories, but Galatea could not see Supergirl’s.

Green Arrow: What makes you say that?

Question:  (looking at Superman)  If that were the case, why didn’t she ever strike at Supergirl at home.  Her “real” home?  Or maybe pay you a visit  . . . . .at your “day” job.

Superman:  I see your point.   But then how?

Question:  How did Supergirl beat Galatea in their last encounter?

Green Arrow:  Fried her on one of the generator’s power couplings.  I see what you’re getting at.  You think it might have short circuited her brain.

Question:  Maybe even wiping her mind completely blank.  Destroying all mental blocks and conditioning Cadmus put in there.  Leaving it wide open to be filled with all of Supergirl’s memories.  The evidence does support this theory.  The last thing she remembers is her training session with you and Green Lantern.  Right before the three of you took your adventure into the future.  With her gone, no more memories.

Superman:  But she isn’t Kara.

Question:  What matters is that she believes she is.  I would suggest you continue to treat her as your cousin.  And make sure the rest of the League is on the same page.

Superman: Why?

Question:  You already know the answer to that.  Or you just don’t want to admit it.

Green Arrow:  What’s he talking about, Superman?

Superman: (sullen)  That somewhere in her mind she is still Galatea.

Question:  And if that personality should ever surface again . . . . .you may have to kill her.

Superman:  It doesn’t have to come to that.

Question:  Really?  What happened when you tried to take over the planet all those years ago?  How much damage did you do before you were stopped?

Superman:  That experience also proved that it was possible to hold a Kryptonian.

Question:  And just exactly how long did they hold you before you were able to break free?

Superman:  I had help.  I couldn’t do it on my own.

Question: And there aren’t those out there who would want to help Galatea?  Hamilton would be right at the top of the list.  And there’s no telling what kind of connections he’s formed during his tenure with Cadmus.

Question starts to walk away.

Question:  Short of Kryptonite, there is only one other sure way of killing a Kryptonian.  And that’s another Kryptonian.

Green Arrow and Superman stand there in silence for a moment.

Green Arrow:  We’ll just have to make sure that doesn’t happen.

Superman:  I’ll have to find a way of informing the rest of the League without her . . . . .without Kara finding out.

Green Arrow:  I’m sure Dinah and I can help you with that.

Superman:  I couldn’t ask you to do that.

Green Arrow:  Hey, if Question is right, and the kid in there has all of Kara’s memories, who are we to say she isn’t?  We can’t even disprove it with a DNA test.

Superman can’t help but smile.

The door opens.  Black Canary is stepping out.

Black Canary:  I hope you boys are decent.  We’re coming out.

Black Canary stands between the men and Galatea emerges from the room.

Green Arrow:  Whoa.  More like Superwoman.

Black Canary uses the back of her hand to flip her hair off her shoulder, and also to smack Green Arrow across the face.

Galatea is looking down at her uniform.

Galatea:  I know this sounds strange.  But it feels like I’m wearing this outfit for the very first time.

Worry flashes across Superman’s face.

Green Arrow:  Hey, don’t worry about that, kiddo.  Why don’t you let me and Canary show you around the Tower.

Galatea:  Arrow, I’ve only been gone six months, right?  How much could it have changed since then?

Green Arrow:  Humor the old man, kid.  You’re our shiny new penny.  We want to show you off.

Galatea: (smiling)  Alright.  Superman?

Superman:  You go ahead.  I have a briefing that I can’t put off any longer.  We’ll catch up later tonight.

Galatea:  Okay.

Galatea seems a little disappointed as she, Green Arrow, and Black Canary start down the corridor.

Green Arrow:  Don’t let him fool you, sweetheart.  The big guy’s been an emotional wreck ever since you left.  Now that you’re back-- awake, he needs some time to process all this.

After they disappear around the bend, Superman turns in the opposite direction.  Brings a hand up to his ear.

Superman:  Mr. Terrific.  I need to speak with all founding members in the conference room.  Have the secure lines established.

FADE OUT.

ACT III.

FADE IN.

1.  Conference room.

Superman and Wonder Woman are the only ones there.  They are standing in front of a bank of monitors.  On the large screen are little windows with the images of . . .  Batman: Gotham City,   Flash:  Central City, Shayera:  Metro Tower, and J’onn: China.

Superman:  And I was about to tell her who she really was when the Question--

All the other founders:   Argh . . . .

J’onn:  (shaking his head speaking in Martian)

Everyone is looking at him in question.

Wonder Woman:  J’onn?

J’onn:  (slight smirk on his face) Sorry.  We Martians take our swearing very seriously.

Flash:  (raised eyebrow)  Gotta say, J’onn, this more “in touch with my human side” you still needs a little getting used to.

Superman:  Anyway, Question starts in with this whole ridiculous story about her coming back from the future, in a comatose state.  But I have to give him credit, if I didn’t already know the truth, I would have believed him.

Shayera:  This is extremely dangerous.  If this clone’s original personality--

Batman:  Which for all we know was specifically constructed by Cadmus--

Shayera:  --is still buried in her psyche--

Batman:  --then we could be dealing with multiple personalities here--

Shayera:  --and anything--

Batman:  --a word--

Shayera:  --or a phrase--

Batman:  --even a moment of déjà vu--

Batman and Shayera:  --could trigger her to revert to form.

Shayera:  (pissed)  Stop that!  (punches her monitor and Shayera’s image fizzles out)

Flash: Don’t you just love it when these two geek criminology?

Shayera’s image reappears above Flash’s window.

Shayera: (calmer)  Sorry, about that.  But Question may have done you a favor, Superman.  If you had told this girl she was Galatea--

Batman:  You might have triggered her--

Shayera:  (pissed again, clenched fist visible, audible growling)  You pay for all these monitors, don’t you, Batman?

Batman’s eyes narrow but he remains quiet.

Shayera:  (calm again)  Whatever his thinking, you avoided having to fight her.

Wonder Woman:  Repelling an army of Ultimen severely crippled the Watchtower.  I can’t imagine what two full size Kryptonians would’ve done to the place.

Superman:  Agreed.  But I think it’s safer if we keep her up here as long as possible.  It’s easier to track her movements.  If she is . . . . . .triggered, I would rather she not be on Earth.   And we already have the red sun holding cell set up here.

Shayera:  I’ll have one set up down here as soon as possible.

Batman:  Good idea.  I can bring a chunk of kryptonite--

Superman:  (raised voice)  No! (a beat, voice normal again)  That’s not an option I’m ready to consider right now.

Batman:  It may become an option.

Flash:  Do you want us to return to the WatchTower?  I’m sure the six of us could take her without having to go to extreme measures.

Superman: (ponders)  No.  She might become suspicious if we’re all suddenly here watching her.  She--  Kara was never really that close to any of you.

J’onn:  It’s unfortunate Green Lantern isn’t here.

Flash:  Yeah, John spent more time with her than any of us.  He was her mentor.  (realizes)  No offense.

Superman:  It’s true.  But I can be close to her without having to explain myself.  What we need to do is get as many of Kara’s friends here as possible.

Wonder Woman:  Preferably the strongest ones.

Superman:  I certainly don’t want Green Arrow and Black Canary to be at ground zero by themselves.  She seemed to have developed a rapport with Captain Atom.

Flash:  His guns are pretty big.

Superman: And he can generate red sun radiation.  That would slow her down.

Shayera:  Stargirl can wield a mean energy staff.

Flash:  Talk about bitter rivals.

Wonder Woman:  There are few bonds closer than that of sisters in arms.

Shayera:  (sarcastic) No wonder you and me get along so well.

J’onn:  And Dugan is never far away from his stepdaughter.

Superman:  Big Barda is coming from New Genesis, in a couple of days to relieve Orion.  I’ll ask him to stay a little while longer.  Having two New Gods here should give us extra muscle in reserve.

Wonder Woman:  (scoffs) “Gods.”

Shayera:  Then I’ll have Atom, Stargirl, and S.T.R.I.P.E  report to you immediately, Superman.

Wonder Woman:  And I’ll join you at the Metro Tower, Shayera.

Shayera:  That’s not neces-- (glowers) But I’m still in charge down here for 4 more days.  Don’t you forget that, Diana!

Wonder Woman:  (innocent grin) Of course.  But we should gather as many League members as possible, ready to beam up at the first sign of trouble.

Superman:  And there is one other thing, J’onn.  I know that Kara--  this clone --

J’onn:  I believe it would benefit us all greatly if we put it in our minds and in our hearts that we are dealing with the Kara and Supergirl we have always known.

Superman:  She is the Kara I know.  That’s why its so easy to forget she is a clone . . . . . . . (Wonder Woman puts a hand on his shoulder) . . . . And so difficult.  (to J’onn)  And Kara is going to want to know what happened to those memories she “lost” when she was in the future.  And since she never really had any . . . .

J’onn:  I understand.  When she asks for me, just tell her the truth.  As a part-time League member I am currently on my own time.  That should buy a couple of more days.

Superman:  I hate to ask you to lie . . . .

J’onn:  Nonsense.  I will be looking for memories that aren’t there and will tell her as much.  At the very least I can see if this Galatea personality, or her memories, still exist within her.

Shayera:  Then why not do the mind probe now?

J’onn:  Because such a probe could also possibly bring those memories to the surface.

Batman:  Which is exactly what we’re trying to avoid.  No need to risk that until we absolutely have to.

Superman:  Okay.  I’ll call you when I need you, J’onn.

J’onn:  I’ll be here.

Flash:  We all will.

Batman:  Good luck, Clark.

Superman:  Thanks, everyone.  WatchTower, out.  (hand to ear)  Mr. Terrific?

Mr. T:  Still here.  I can have “read and burn” briefings ready to send to all League members in five minutes.

Wonder Woman:  What would we ever do without you, Mr. Terrific?

Mr. T:  Give J’onn his old job back?

Wonder Woman:  (frowns)  Well . . . . .yeah, but . . . .

Mr. T:  Don’t worry, Diana.  Only kidding with you.  I’ll get it done, Superman.  Bridge, out.

Wonder Woman:  I can stay if you want me to?

Superman:  That’s okay, Diana.  We should have enough people here.

Wonder Woman:  I wasn’t talking about strength in numbers.

Superman:  I appreciate it.  But I’m fine.   And I would feel a lot better with you down there.  If something should happen and she does make it to Earth, you and the others will be the last line of defense.

Wonder Woman:  (hand on his shoulder)  Family matters can be the toughest duties we have.

Superman:  (smiles)  Then I’m fortunate to have the rest of my family there to back me up.

Wonder Woman:  (heading out of the conference room)  I’ll call you when Shayera and I have the Metro Tower ready.

After she leaves, Superman pulls out a cell phone and dials a number.

Superman:  Hi, Ma.  I’m doing well.  Is Pa there?  I need to talk to both of you.  It’s about Kara.

ACT IV

Fade in.

Scene.  A city.  Day.  Tall buildings.  Giganta suddenly falls back against one of the buildings.  She pulls herself up and tries to swipe at Galatea, but the tinier woman is too fast and uses superspeed to smack Giganta across the face a few times.

Cut to.  Inside a control room.  Green Arrow is seated in front of the console.  Superman standing behind his shoulder.

Superman:  How’s she doing?

Green Arrow: She’s doing great.  She’s already beaten all of Kara’s highest scores.

Superman:  Well, she is a little stronger than Kara.

Green Arrow:  Make that a lot stronger.  There were many times where the sensors had trouble keeping up with her.  If you ever went into the simulator yourself maybe I would be able to gauge if she’s as strong as you.  The funny thing is . . . . .

Superman:  What?

Green Arrow:  She fights the exact same way Kara does.  From the way she flies to how she punches.

Superman:  That should be expected since she believes she is Kara.

Green Arrow: Sure.  But there’s only so much that comes from the memories in our mind.  The rest of our body, our muscles, have their own memories.  Like when I hold my bow, I don’t even have to think about it, my hands find the proper hold.

Superman:  What are you saying?

Green Arrow: I’ve seen Galatea up close in action.  She couldn’t fight anymore differently than Kara even if she wasn’t Kara’s clone.  I even compared notes with Steel, who’s encounter with her was even closer.

Superman:  And?

Green Arrow:  And Galatea actually fights more like you.

Superman:  Really.

Green Arrow:  Remember, Cadmus’ highest objective was finding a way to take you out.  I guess they figured the rest of the League wouldn’t be so hard to take down once you were out of the way.  So they probably got a hold of every news reel, surveillance footage, and home movie of you in action they could find and based Galatea’s training on it.  Though she does fight a lot dirtier than you do.

Superman:  So that’s what you’re watching for? See if any of her previous training surfaces?

Green Arrow:  We’re looking for warning signs, right?  You can tell a lot about a person by the way they fight.

In the simulator, Giganta falls back, out cold, landing with a crash on the street.  A few seconds later a light washes over her and her giant frame is replaced by dozens of Z-8 robots all connected together.

Galatea is floating.

G:  Hey, Ollie, I remember these training sessions being a lot tougher.

Green Arrow: Well hold on to your cape, kid.  I do have one last opponent for you.

Galatea:  Maybe this time you’ll actually give me a challenge.

She sees the next opponent flying towards her.

Galatea:  Bizarro?  (shrugs)  I suppose . . . . .if that’s the best you can do.

Green Arrow: Just give it a shot and see.

Galatea flies at Bizarro as he still soars toward her.

Galatea:  We’ll see who’s stronger you defective clone of--

She sees an image of Galatea (white costume) materialize over Bizarro.

White Galatea: Who are you calling a clone?

Galatea: (shocked) What!?

White Galatea becomes Bizarro again and punches Galatea hard in the face.  Sending her flying back into a building.

Green Arrow:  Whoa, Kara!  Even I could’ve dodged that without superspeed.

Galatea:  (shaking her head)  He just caught me off guard with his witticism.

Green Arrow: (to Superman)  Did you hear him say anything?

Galatea floats away from the building, readying herself as Bizarro comes in again.

Galatea: I’m ready for you this time.

Again, Bizarro phases into White Galatea.

White Galatea:  Good.  Because this is really gonna hurt.

Galatea is shocked again and lets down her guard.

Galatea:  (faint) No.

White Galatea comes in with a hard right cross followed by a left hook.  A strong uppercut to the stomach doubles her over.

Superman:  Something’s wrong.

Green Arrow:  You’re telling me.  Not even you allow yourself to take this much punishment.

White Galatea hits Galatea with an uppercut to the chin that sends her straight up, plowing the side of the building.

Galatea frees herself from the building and sees White Galatea speeding towards her.

Galatea:  This is impossible.  You’re not real. (eyes glowing red)  You’re not real!

A powerful blast of heat vision hits White Galatea.  As White Galatea is driven downwards she becomes Bizarro again who then fades to the Z-8 robot.  The robot quickly starts to melt and there is a huge explosion when it hit’s the ground.

Superman and Green Arrow feel the tremor this causes.

Green Arrow:  What the hell?  Did I just see heat vision at its full potential?

Superman: (worried)  No.  You didn’t.

Green Arrow: (wide-eyed)  You mean there’s a higher setting?  She nearly breached the bottom of the simulator.  And she triggered a yellow alert on the bridge.  Mr. Terrific is calling now.

Superman:  Tell him everything is under control.

Green Arrow:  Is it?

Superman:  I hope so.  (to mic)  Kara?

In the simulator .  Galatea is landing, looking a bit shaken.  The burning crater not too far behind her.

Superman: (OS)  Kara.  Are you all right?

Galatea:  Yeah, Clark.  Must’ve gotten a little carried away.  Sorry.  I guess clones just bring out my grumpier side.

Superman:  Well I’d say we’re done for today.  Why don’t we grab some dinner--

White Galatea:  (OS)  You didn’t think you could get rid of me that easy, did you?

White Galatea floats up from the flames, unscathed.  Evil look on her face.

White Galatea:  Wherever you go, I’ll be right there.

White Galatea charges her.  Galatea throws a punch that goes right through White Galatea’s head without effect.  White Galatea counters with a fist across Galatea’s face, followed by another that sends her flying back.  She hit’s the front of a building creating a cracked pattern.

Superman:  Kara, what’s happening?

Green Arrow:  Who’s she fighting?

Superman: Shut off the simulator.

Green Arrow:  But the environment is the only thing being generated.

Superman:  Just do it!

White Galatea is pounding Galatea into the wall, driving her deeper into the wall.  Then everything around her fades, replaced by the bare walls of the simulator.  But White Galatea is still there.

White Galatea:  See?  I’m not a hologram.  You can’t turn me off.

The door opens on the far side of the chamber, behind White Galatea, and Superman comes flying in fast.  White Galatea starts to fade.

White Galatea:  Just remember that.

Before she fades completely, White Galatea gives Galatea one last strong uppercut.  Galatea’s eyes roll back and she drops to her knees.  She is falling forward when Superman catches her.  Holds her in his arms.

Superman:  Kara?  Kara!

Fade out.

Act V.

Fade in.

Close up of Galatea.  She is lying down, blanket covering her, head resting on a pillow, one hand underneath the pillow.  Sleeping peacefully.

She opens her eyes, then quickly sits up.  Her pillow drops from view.  She looks around.  Then looks down.  Black Canary is sitting in a chair beside her bed, her head down, asleep.  We see Galatea is floating a few feet above the bed.  She floats down to the floor next to Black Canary.

Cut to.  Galatea walking to the door. (she is wearing a long white T-shirt with a bat insignia on the chest)  She’s carrying her uniform draped over her arm.  Black Canary is now in her bed, tucked in.

Cut to.

Short time later.  The locker room.

Galatea is coming out of a shower stall, towel wrapped around her body.  She is the only one there.  She stops in front of her locker where her Supergirl outfit is hanging.  She stares at it.  Touches the “S”.

Cut to.  Cafeteria.

Galatea is walking out of the food line with a tray (small box of cereal and glass of orange juice).  Stargirl catches her attention as she waves to her from one of the tables.

Stargirl:  Kara!  Over here.

Galatea sits down across from her.

Stargirl:  Long time no see.  Well, at least from my point of view.

Galatea:  Yeah.  Time travel is funny that way.

Stargirl:  And it looks like the years have not only been kind, but quite generous too.

Galatea: (grins)  Careful, Courtney, or else I’ll start to think you’re hitting on me.

Stargirl: (chuckles)  It’s just unfair how you Kryptonian types seem to get hit with all the branches of the pretty tree.

Galatea:  Well, biologically, I’m not really a--

Stargirl: (serious) So I heard there was some kind of malfunction in the combat simulator.

Galatea: Yeah.  This holorobot of Bizarro started . . . . . . .acting strange.  Guess he must have really knocked me around.  I don’t even remember how I got back to my quarters.

Stargirl:  I think everyone felt the tremors of that fight throughout the whole station.

Galatea: (shrugs) Guess I don’t know my own strength anymore.

Stargirl:  I wouldn’t be surprised if you’re as strong as Superman now.  I bet you could beat Wonder Woman in an arm wrestling match.

Galatea: (scoff) Get out.

Stargirl: I’m serious.  Maybe you should change your name to Superwoman.

Galatea:  As politically correct minded that may be, I actually like the Supergirl name. (wry grin)  And I’d like to think I still have a few more years in me before the name becomes wishful thinking.  Besides, aside from Wonder Woman, can you think of any other “woman” out there?

Stargirl: (ponders for a moment)  Hmmmmm.  Catwoman.

Galatea:  See?  You had to pull out a criminal to find one.

Stargirl:  Wait.  Wasn’t there a Batwoman running around Gotham a couple of years back?

Galatea:  And if I remember, she turned out to be a crazy vigilante.

Stargirl:  Oh, sure.  When Batman does it, it’s perfectly fine, but when a woman puts on a bat costume there has to be something wrong with her.

Galatea:  The double standard is alive and well, even in the super community.

Stargirl:  Another reason for us “girls” to stick together?

Galatea: Actually, it seems even the men are getting away from that whole “man” thing as well.  Sure Superman, Batman, even Aquaman, are all great names.  But when you got Plastic and Elongated Man, the “man” kinda starts to lose its luster.

Stargirl:  What about Shayera’s stalker boyfriend?  Hawkman.

Galatea just raises an eyebrow.

Stargirl: Yeah.  That kinda answered my own question.  But in his defense, I think he stopped stalking her.

They lapse into silence.

Galatea:  So why are you thinking about changing you’re image?

Stargirl:  What makes you think I am?

Galatea indicates the notepad and pen beside Stargirl’s tray.

Stargirl: (narrow eyes) You supers and your X-ray vision.

Galatea:  I didn’t need X-ray vision.  Besides, a name and costume change isn’t gonna make the others treat you differently.  And who actually thinks of us as little girls anyway?

Stargirl:  Well, my dad still does.  Oh, and--

Galatea & Stargirl:  Green Lantern! (they laugh)

Galatea:  But then John’s like that with anyone he considers a rookie.

Cut to.

Watchtower bridge.

Mr. Terrific:  As far as I can tell, she’s fine.  She’s been hanging out with Stargirl since breakfast this morning.

Superman, Green Arrow, and Black Canary are standing on the deck with Mr. Terrific.

Green Arrow: (to Dinah)  Way to watch her, Miss Sleepy--

Black Canary, looking not at all pleased, raises her hand to Green Arrow’s face and closes her fist, cracking her knuckles.  Green Arrow shuts up.

Mr. T:  And you still can’t say what happened to her in the combat simulator?

Superman:  I’m not sure what happened.  It was like she was talking to someone only she could see.

Black Canary:  You said she was fighting Bizarro.  Maybe she was talking to him?  A little super banter?

Green Arrow:  Maybe.  But how do you explain someone was beating her up even after she destroyed the robot?

Mr. T:  I analyzed the sensor readings.  When her unseen foe knocked her across the simulator she was flying under her own power.  There was no outside force interacting with her.

Superman:  Whatever she saw it was real enough in her mind that she had to respond to it physically.

Black Canary:  Does this mean she’s losing her . . . . . . Kara-ness?

Superman:  I wish I knew.

Mr. T:  I think it might be time to call J’onn in on this.

Superman:  It might just have been an episode.

Green Arrow:  But it happened on the second day after she woke up.

Mr. T:  The reason they call them episodes, Superman, is because there’re usually more than one.

Superman has a grim look on his face.

Green Arrow:  Look, it’s not like we don’t want her to be Kara.    But we all know the real Kara is living her life a thousand years in the--

Superman suddenly brings his finger to his lips, silencing everyone.  Then he points down towards the deck below them.  They see that Galatea has walked onto the bridge with Stargirl.

Stargirl:  Of course, you remember the bridge.

Galatea:  It does seem a little . . . . .smaller than when I was last here.

Stargirl just eyes her for a few seconds, with a glance to Galatea’s chest.

Stargirl:  The comeback for that remark is just too easy.  But there are a few more blinking lights on these panels that I still don’t know what they’re for.

Galatea looks up and sees Superman on the command deck.  She waves to him.  Smiling, Superman returns the wave.

I giant flash of light washes over the bridge from above the command deck getting everyone’s attention.

Galatea:  A boomtube!?

She is ready to take off when Stargirl puts a hand on her shoulder.

Stargirl:  Relax.  It’s just Barda arriving from New Genesis.

Galatea:  New Genesis?  I thought she lived on Earth?

Stargirl:  Mr. Miracle is touring there.

Big Barda dressed in her usual bikini garb steps down the boomtube onto the command deck and stands in front of Superman, towering over him by more than half a foot.

Galatea:  Wow.  I knew she was tall.  But she actually makes Superman look short.  She has to be as tall as J’onn.

Stargirl: (looking just a little perturbed)  Just what we need.  Another tall, gorgeous superwoman.

Galatea: Oh, c’mon, Courtney.  Don’t sell yourself shor--

Galatea looks a little sheepishly at a visibly miffed Stargirl and can’t help but giggle.

On the command deck.

Superman:  Good to see you again, Barda.

Barda:  You as well, Superman.  Scott sends his regards.

Superman:  And how is Mr. Miracle doing?

Barda:  His tour got off to a slow start, but the people of New Genesis quickly came around.

Superman: (raises an eyebrow)  You didn’t threaten them did you?

Barda: (sly grin) How would you say . . . . .no comment?  So what is this problem you have?

Superman:  I’ll tell you about it later.

Black Canary: (low voice)  Ollie, close your mouth.

Superman:  Oh, I’m sorry.  I don’t believe you’ve met Black Canary and Green Arrow.

Barda:  Ah.  More of your color-themed heroes.  The League does like to use primary colors.

Green Arrow:  Actually, (points to Superman)  He’s the primary color guy.

Superman:  And you know Mr. Terrific.

Barda:  Of course.  My god, you are even less cute than the last time I saw you.  (to Superman)  I demand you bring the martian back at once.

Mr. T:  (smiling) It’s good to see you to Big Barda.

Cut to.  Galatea.  She is smiling, watching the heroes on the command deck.

Stargirl:  They talking about important stuff?

Galatea:  Not hardly.

Stargirl:  Then why don’t you go introduce yourself?

On the other side of the bridge one of the civilian techs looks over his shoulder to where Galatea and Stargirl are talking.  He is wearing a cap and glasses.  An older man.  And we recognize him as Emil Hamilton.

Hamilton: (whispers) Galatea reborn.

On the upper deck Superman reacts to this, startling everyone around him, and looks down towards the lower deck.  At the same time Galatea suddenly clutches her head in pain and screams.

Stargirl:  Kara!  What’s wrong?

Superman: (sees Hamilton)  Hamilton!

Superman flies down and grabs Hamilton by the shirt.

Superman:  What did you do!?

Hamilton:  I gave her back her true identity.

Inside Galatea’s mind, hundreds of images are flashing by so fast of her life as Galatea.  Including waking up in sick bay and up to this moment.  She opens her eyes and sees Superman holding Hamilton.

Galatea:  Get away from him!

She lashes out with her heat vision.  Superman blocks the beams with his arm and they cut across his forearm, making him cry out in pain.

Stargirl:  Kara, stop!

Galatea whirls around and grabs Stargirl by the neck.

Galatea: (furious)  What did you call me?!

Stargirl is gagging and it looks like her neck is about to snap, when Black Canary lands on Galatea’s chest with both feet.  The impact does little to stagger her but she does release Stargirl.  She grabs one of Black Canary’s legs and flings her across the bridge.  Then two of Mr. Terrific’s T-spheres come zooming in smacking her across the face a couple of times before she grabs one of the spheres and crushes it in her hand and destroys the other with a swing of her other fist.

With a battle cry, Big Barda leaps from the upper deck.  Rolling into a somersault, clutching her Mega Rod, she activates her armor, coming down at Galatea.  Galatea leaps into the air just as Barda lands, smashing the console Galatea was standing in front of.

Superman:  Grab her!

Superman leaps into the air at her, and with Galatea’s attention on him, Orion takes her by surprise grabbing her from behind.  She’s quickly able to toss him at Superman, sending them both crashing back to the deck.

Hamilton:  You must get away from here, Galatea!  (off her expression)  Don’t worry about me.  Save yourself!

Reluctantly, Galatea dives straight down, smashing through the teleporter platform, destroying it.  The Watch Tower shudders as she continues to smash her way through the descending decks.

Mr. Terrific:  She busting through all the decks.  She’s already down to deck 10.

There is one last strong shudder.

Mr. Terrific:  She just left the Watch Tower.  Hull breach on Deck 17.  No personnel present.  Sealing Deck 16.

Superman flies up with Hamilton in tow.  Big Barda and Orion quickly follow behind him.

Superman:  What did you say to her!

Hamilton:  A contingency plan.  I was never happy with all the mental conditioning Cadmus put her through so I ensured that it would be possible to reset her psyche to it’s earliest state before all the conditioning took place.

Superman: And you just set her loose on Earth!

Hamilton:  She is her true self!

Superman:  A murderer!

Hamilton:  I just need to talk to her.  I can calm her down--

Superman:  I think you’ve done enough.  (to Terrific)  Do you have her?

Terrific:  The tracking device in her uniform is working perfectly.  Tachyon pulse so no chance she could hear it.  Looks like she’s heading straight  for Metropolis.

Superman looks at the projected course than sees Kansas several states away.

Superman:  No. She’s not.  I’m going after her.  Barda, Orion, when I catch up with her  Boom down to our location.

Orion:  She is a smaller Kryptonian.   Can you not subdue her yourself?

Superman:  Not without hurting her.  And maybe not without her hurting me.  Either way, I’d rather not.  Mr. Terrific, signal a Sigma Alert.  Do you understand?  Let the Metro Tower know what’s happening.  And get ready to seal off deck 15.

Mr. Terrific:  Deck 15?

Superman leaves the same way Galatea did.

Mr. Terrific:  Oh.  Damn.  Repair crews, redirect to deck 16.

Repair crewman:  (OS)  But I thought the main breach was on 17?

The Watchtower shudders slightly as Superman breaks through the seal on Deck 16.

Mr. Terrific:  Not anymore.  Sealing Deck 15.

Big Barda:  What is a Sigma alert?

Orion:  I have never heard of it either.

Mr. T: It means  . . . .

Green Arrow:  It means. . . .

Green Arrow, Black Canary, and Stargirl are walking onto the deck.

Green Arrow:  “An out of control Superman.”

Mr. T:  Supergirl in this case.

I do want to finish it, as well as my other JLU "episodes" (four in all). In fact I've had the ending written before I even posted this much, I just need to write up all the action that happens in the middle part of the story. I hope I can do it soon.

You should, it's very well written, and captures the voices of the characters extremely well. I hope that you finish it.

Thanks. I'm glad you like it. I basically have all the scenes for the second episode already written. It's just the huge action scene that takes up most of the first half of the episode that I still need to write. I have an outline of all the major things that happen in all the fight scenes, I just need to add all the little details and put them all together.

I do have an outline for my Shayera episode, but there's still a lot of scenes to fill in. I only have a few acts written for it so far. It has been several months since I've worked on any of these scripts. I really need to start working on them again.

Yeah, I really love how the characters were portrayed on the show and the kind of stories they were doing, so I didn't feel the need to change them. And they had quite of few things left unresolved, so there's still plenty of things to explore.
